Big feelings deserve big support at every age.
We talk a lot about adult mental health, but children struggle too, and they often don't have the words to tell us. Instead, they show us through their behavior.
1 in 6 children aged 2–8 has a diagnosed mental, behavioral, or developmental disorder. And half of all lifetime mental health conditions begin before age 14.
Early support isn't overreacting; it's one of the most powerful things we can do for our kids.
Watch for the signs. Create space for big feelings. And remember: seeking help for your child is an act of love, not failure.

Your mental health matters.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to break stigma, start conversations, and remind each other that mental health is health.

1 in 5 US adults experiences any mental illness each year.

15.4 million adults experience serious mental illness each year.

50% of all mental illness begins by age 14

15.4% of youth experience a major depressive episode.

Stigma is one of the biggest barriers to people seeking help. Talking openly, even just saying "I'm not okay," is an act of courage that can change lives.

Small ways to show up this month:

Check in on someone, a text can mean everything.

Replace "just cheer up" with "I'm here for you."

Normalize therapy as self-care, not weakness.

Sharing resources and knowledge reduces stigma.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) affects approximately 1 in 36 people in the US, and every autistic person's experience is unique.

What autism is- A neurological difference in how the brain processes the world.

What it's not- A disease to be cured or a barrier to a full, meaningful life.

Autistic people may experience the world more intensely; sounds, lights, textures, and social cues can feel amplified. Understanding this helps us build a more inclusive world.

How you can help:

Listen to autistic voices, follow, amplify, and learn from them.

Embrace neurodiversity, different isn't less.

Challenge stigma when you see it — awareness starts with conversation.

To every mom carrying more than anyone sees, you are enough.
Motherhood is beautiful. It's also exhausting, isolating, and overwhelming sometimes — and that's the part we don't talk about enough.
1 in 5 new moms experience postpartum depression or anxiety. And so many more silently carry the weight of burnout, grief, anxiety, and pressure to "have it all together."
This Mother's Day, let's celebrate moms by also permitting them to be human.
Rest is not laziness. A bad day doesn't make you a bad mom. And asking for help? That's one of the bravest things you can do.
If you or a mom you love is struggling, support is available — call or text 988, free and confidential, 24/7.
Tag a mom who deserves to hear this today.

April is Stress Awareness Month—and if you’ve been feeling overwhelmed lately, this is your reminder:

Stress doesn’t always look like a breakdown.
Sometimes it looks like:
• Irritability over small things
• Trouble sleeping or constant fatigue
• Feeling “on edge” but not knowing why
• Difficulty focusing or getting started
• Shutting down or avoiding things you normally handle
Many people are carrying more than they realize—and pushing through it without support.

What if instead of asking, “Why can’t I handle this?”
You asked, “What do I need right now?”

At First City Counseling, we help you identify what’s underneath the stress—and build tools that actually work for your life.

💛 You deserve support, not just survival.

Spring is supposed to feel like a fresh start… but for many people, it doesn’t.
There’s a common belief that as the weather warms up and the days get longer, your mood should automatically improve. So when it doesn’t, it can feel confusing—or even discouraging.

Here’s the reality:
Spring can bring just as much emotional overwhelm as winter.
🌼 Schedules get busier
🌼 Expectations increase (“get outside,” “be productive,” “feel better”)
🌼 Big life transitions often happen this time of year
🌼 More social events = more pressure
🌼 And for some, the shift in routine alone can feel destabilizing

If you’re feeling anxious, low, or out of sync right now—you’re not alone, and there’s nothing “wrong” with you.

Mental health doesn’t follow the seasons in a perfect, predictable way.
At First City Counseling, we’re here to support you through all seasons—especially the ones that don’t look the way you expected.

💛 You don’t have to force yourself to feel better just because it’s spring.
