is happy to serve 20 southeast Georgia counties through our TWO offices - Savannah and Screven! Promoting independent living and advancing community change for EVERYONE! LIFE envisions a society in which people with disabilities are valued equally and participate fully. In order to accomplish this goal, we advocate for individuals facing discrimination in employment, education, housing, transporta

We base our priorities and actions on the belief that people with disabilities have the right to decide how to live, work, and participate in their communities. The CIL works to provide access and inclusion to the world through our programs and services which are designed to enhance quality of life and increase levels of personal independence. These services include the five CORE services of individual and systems advocacy, peer support, independent living skills training, information & referral, and transitional services. In addition to these core services, LIFE provides life-changing opportunities through other services such as its Students for LIFE program, its Home Modification Program and the Assistive Technology Outreach Center (ATOC.). The Students for LIFE Youth Program helps young people with disabilities each their full potential by providing support, information services, training and leadership opportunities. LIFE’s Home Modification Program offers individuals with physical disabilities the freedom to access their homes independently. And finally, LIFE’s Assistive Technology Outreach Center (ATOC) is dedicated to increasing access to and acquisition of assistive technology devices and services for individuals with disabilities living in SE Georgia. What an incredible day!

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who joined us for Ready Together: Emergency Preparedness Day at LIFE. We were inspired by the enthusiasm, engagement, and thoughtful participation of attendees who came ready to learn, ask questions, share their experiences, and take steps toward becoming better prepared for emergencies.

Emergency preparedness is truly a community effort, and we are proud to have spent the day learning and planning together. We hope everyone left with new knowledge, practical tools, and greater confidence in their ability to prepare for hurricane season and other emergencies.

Congratulations to all of our giveaway winners, including the winner of our grand prize emergency preparedness kit! We hope these supplies help you continue building your preparedness plans at home.

Special thanks to our outstanding community partners and guest speakers:

πŸš“ Corporal Rebekah Helmick of the Savannah Police Department

πŸš’ Chief Whitney Williams-Smith and Public Information Officer Cheryl Mason of the Savannah Fire Department

🀟 Darlene West of Heart Language Interpreting Services for ensuring communication access throughout the event

We are especially grateful to Chief Williams-Smith for facilitating a meaningful conversation about how our community can better support people with disabilities before, during, and after emergencies. The feedback shared by participants was invaluable.

Finally, thank you to the dedicated LIFE staff whose hard work, planning, and commitment made this event possible. Your passion for promoting preparedness, independence, and inclusion helps ensure that people with disabilities, their families, and our community are better equipped to face emergencies with confidence.

Together, we are building a stronger, safer, and more prepared community.
