Nearly half of all children in the U.S. are now living with at least one chronic condition: from obesity and autoimmune disease to asthma, anxiety, and developmental disorders. And the numbers are only rising.
This detailed, nonpartisan investigation brings to light the underlying drivers of this modern epidemic. The findings point to a combination of ultra-processed, nutrient-poor diets; increasing exposure to harmful environmental toxins and endocrine-disrupting chemicals; overprescription of medications that manage symptoms rather than root causes; lack of physical activity; and skyrocketing screen time.
In short, the environments we are raising our children in (what they eat, breathe, absorb, and experience) are making them sick.
This report offers a path forward. With a focus on prevention, education, and systemic change, it calls for a transformation in our food systems, school environments, pediatric care, and public health policies.
If we want to change the future of healthcare, we have to start with the health of our children. And that starts by confronting the systems that are failing them.
