I’d honestly like to thank the Schaumburg first responders who handled this situation with patience and compassion.

It breaks my heart to know that people are hurting so deeply.

But it is my sincere hope that with the proper care, people who struggle with depression can see and experience the joy in life again.

At its July 27 meeting, Schaumburg's Village Board recognized Tarah Galloway with the Outstanding Citizen Award for bravely rendering assistance to an individual in great distress.

Galloway, a long-time Schaumburg resident and owner of a private practice offering counseling and coaching services, was in a session with a patient who expressed suicidal intentions. Believing that her patient needed immediate medical and mental health attention, Galloway called 911. As the individual became more distraught and began to walk out of the office, she did everything she could to safely contain her patient until emergency services arrived. For approximately 5 minutes, she physically restrained and attempted to calm the patient down until police and first responders arrived on scene to render assistance. If not for her courageous actions, this incident could have resulted in a much different outcome.

Becoming a better version of yourself takes work. It involves self-reflection and a desire to learn, grow, change, and evolve.

It can’t just stop at learning though. Learning doesn’t mean anything if you don’t actually apply the knowledge.
