A medical spa in Texas received a warning letter from the FDA for allegedly administering off-brand, illegal botulinum toxin. The warning letter followed an FDA inspection of the med spa that found a discrepancy between the amount of botulinum toxin legally purchased and the amount administered to patients. ASDSA encourages patients to ensure medical procedures use FDA-approved products and are performed or supervised by an onsite physician, especially by a board certified dermatologist. Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the U.S. and one in five Americans will develop skin cancer by the age of 70. ASDSA’s SUNucate model bill allows access to sunscreen in schools, which promotes lifelong sun-safe habits and helps ensure children are protected from the most preventable risk factor for skin cancer – overexposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays.
