Today was a kiddo filled today! I had 3 sets of kids lobes. As a mom, I love working with kids. It fills up my cup.

Sweet Ms. Zoey got her ears pierced today! She picked out some titanium flowers with London Blue CZs. This was a re-pierce from a bad Claire’s experience with sub-optimal placement.

Kids get a piercing certificate, a goodie bag, and an extra prize from my prize bin.

Thanks for a fun day! 🤩

I had a client recently come into the studio for services and share that she has only ever used peroxide, and that she also struggles with having infected/irritated piercings.

Sooooo... lets talk about it!

Peroxide has been widely used for decades for quick wound care such as cleaning a simple scrape or cut. While there are some overlaps to piercings and wounds, there is also a major difference because it comes down to "type" and "wound healing."

Piercings are puncture wounds NOT abrasions.

So when using our aftercare and trying to heal a piercing we need to be thinking about the long term picture. We need to heal the innermost tissue, or fistula. Products like peroxide, alcohol, Neosporin, tea tree oil, etc. are all not going to do a proper job at supporting that tissue to heal. All of those products are also not suitable for puncture wounds, either.

So, when she said her piercings often were red, itchy, sore, crusty, etc. it made sense. The peroxide she was applying was irritating the piercing by stripping off the good bacteria needed, and also very likely damaging the surface layer of jewelry.

So why saline?

Saline is already a naturally occurring bioproduct- your body is happy to receive it! It is used for rehydration, wound care, and irrigating passages. It also doesn't sting, smell, or cause any reactions.

The industry has changed a lot over time and there is a lot of misinformation online as well as by professionals who don't take the time to stay current. It can be overwhelming trying to follow an aftercare regimen.

As always, I'm happy to chat aftercare and trouble shoot if you need it!

I also attached a blog post from a fellow peer that dives more into this topic:

Perfect example of what your piercing should look like when it’s ready for the downsize stage 🤩

We should be able to see room both in front/back and minimal crusties, no swelling, and no piercing bumps!

This is a happy conch piercing half way done healing and on its way to the gold hoop this client dreams of.

FYI- I love seeing my work healing and clients succeeding. Sometimes piercings can really give you a run for your money and take their sweet time. But patience and dedication 💪 it’s so important to swap out your jewelry as soon as you notice swelling go down that way the longer jewelry does not irritate the piercing.

I do not charge for check-ups! I only charge for new jewelry. And as always, my DMs are always open for trouble shooting.
