Your vote is your voice, and the disability community deserves to be heard.

Today, the Spina Bifida Association of New York State joined HeadCount and Living Resources New York to help people with disabilities prepare to participate in the upcoming election.

From accessibility and healthcare to transportation, services, and community resources, decisions made by elected leaders can directly affect the lives of people with disabilities.

That is why participation matters. Nothing about us without us.

Thank you to everyone who came out today and took the time to make sure their voter information was ready for Election Day.

πŸ“š Back-to-school preparation includes understanding the supports available for your child.

The Spina Bifida Association of New York State's Toolkit for Educators: Parent Supplement explains that an Individualized Education Program (IEP) is a written individual educational plan developed for a child with a disability who receives special education services.

An IEP includes:
β€’ Assessment information, including test scores in different areas of functioning.
β€’ An overview of your child's present level of performance.
β€’ Your child's strengths and needs.
β€’ Goals and objectives designed to address those needs.

The IEP is developed by a team that may include:
β€’ Parents
β€’ Professionals who work with the child
β€’ The child, in some cases
β€’ School team members involved in supporting the child's education

Your participation as a parent is an important part of the IEP process.

πŸ“š The transition to preschool is an important step in your child's educational journey.

The Spina Bifida Association of New York State's Toolkit for Educators: Parent Supplement provides guidance for families as they prepare for the transition from Early Intervention (EI) to preschool.

The Toolkit highlights that:
β€’ Early Intervention services support eligible children from birth to age 3.
β€’ Parents are encouraged to contact their public school when their child is 2Β½ years old to begin preparing for the transition to preschool.
β€’ Planning ahead can help families prepare for the next stage of their child's education.

Every transition brings new opportunities to learn, grow, and build support for your child's educational journey.
