Shauna Harris - Explore Intimacy No two couples are alike. No two relationships are the same so let’s work on a plan tailored for you.

So many couples are trying…but they’re trying in ways that don’t translate.

And whenever it doesn’t land, it can feel defeating.

But alignment changes everything.

When you understand:
*how your partner experiences desire
*what helps them feel safe and open
*what actually turns them toward you

You remove the guest work.

And that’s when people feel seen, desired, and considered.

That’s where intimacy becomes something you build together, not something you struggle through.

Start the conversation.

You might be surprised how simple the shift can be.

There are some truths about relationships that aren’t particularly romantic…but understanding them can completely change the way we love.

Love matters tremendously. But love alone cannot carry a relationship.

You can deeply love someone and still communicate poorly.

You can love someone and struggle with accountability.

You can love someone and repeatedly choose behaviors that create distance.

You can even love someone and realize that the relationship isn’t healthy.

That’s why thriving relationships require more than feelings.

They require skills.

They require learning how to listen when you’d rather defend yourself.

How to repair after you’ve caused hurt.

How to communicate what you need instead of expecting your partner to magically know.

How to tolerate disagreement without treating your partner like the enemy.

And perhaps one of the hardest relationship skills of all:
Being willing to look at yourself.

It’s easy to identify everything our partner could do differently.

It’s much harder to ask:
“What am I contributing to this dynamic?”
“What happens to my communication when I feel threatened?”
“Am I listening to understand—or preparing my defense?”
“Are my behaviors creating the connection I’m asking my partner for?”

Healthy relationships require two people willing to remain students—of themselves, of each other, and of the relationship they’re creating together.

You won’t always get it right.

Neither will your partner.

But perfection was never the requirement.

Awareness. Accountability. Curiosity. Repair. Consistency. Effort.

Those are the things that turn love from something you simply feel into something you intentionally build. 🤍

This is one of the most common patterns I see and it is completely fixable.

When couples don’t understand each other’s initiation style, it creates a cycle of:
*misinterpretation
*emotional distance *frustration
*avoidance

And over time, that can start to feel like a much bigger issue than it actually is.

But when you pause and get curious instead of reactive… you create space for understanding.

Not every “no” is rejection.

Not every hesitation is disinterest.

Sometimes it’s simply:
“This isn’t how I receive desire.”

And that awareness alone can shift everything.

Some people think that being direct is “too much.”

Or they hold back because they’re afraid of rejection.

But for many people, lack of initiation feels like:

disinterest
uncertainty
emotional distance

Confidence, when it’s grounded and respectful, creates safety too.

Because it communicates:

“I know I want you”
“I’m not afraid to show it.”

The key is not force- it’s clear, invited energy.

When your partner feels desired without pressure?

That’s where intimacy thrives.

A lot of couples unintentionally stop flirting.

Life gets busy… routines take over… and somewhere along the way, the flirting disappears.

But here’s the truth playfulness is not optional and long-term relationships.

It’s essential.

It creates:
*anticipation
*excitement
*emotional
*physical tension
*a sense of being wanted

Without it, intimacy can start to feel routine or even forced.

The spark starter brings back that energy of:

“I choose you”
“I see you”
“I want you”

And when that energy is present?

Desire has somewhere to land.

This is where so many couples miss each other.

One partner is trying to initiate in the other is pulling away, not because they don’t care… but because they don’t feel ready.

For many people, especially those navigating stress, mental load, or emotional disconnection, desire doesn’t just switch on.

It builds.

And it builds through presence, emotional safety, gentle touch, feeling seen and valued when you slow things down and lead with connection, you remove pressure and create space for desire to actually emerge.

There’s a narrative that love is supposed to feel intense, unpredictable, even a little chaotic.

The highs are high.
The lows are low.
And the inconsistency gets mistaken for passion.

But that kind of dynamic doesn’t create safety, it creates anxiety.

Real, healthy love feels different.

It’s not about guessing where you stand.
It’s not about walking on eggshells.
It’s not about constantly trying to “earn” connection.

It’s about knowing your partner is going to show up.

It’s about feeling secure even when things aren’t perfect.

It’s about consistency in words, actions, and effort.

That doesn’t mean there won’t be conflict or hard moments.

It means those moments are handled with care, respect, and a desire to repair, not withdraw or create more chaos.

Because the strongest relationships aren’t built on intensity.

They’re built on stability.

And that’s what allows love to actually grow. 🤍

Desire isn’t something that just shows up, it’s something that develops overtime.

When couples stop investing in connection, desire, often fades.

But the good news? It can be rebuilt.

With intention and consistency… a little effort makes a BIG difference!

So many people believe that love is enough to sustain a relationship.

But if that were true, more relationships would last.

Love is important but it’s not what carries a relationship through stress, conflict, disconnection, and real life.

What actually allows a relationship to survive, AND THRIVE, is what supports that love:

• Emotional safety — feeling secure enough to be real without fear of judgment or rejection
• Honest communication — saying what’s true before resentment builds
• Accountability — owning your impact instead of getting defensive
• Consistent effort — not just showing up when it’s easy or convenient
• Choosing each other daily — in your words, your actions, and how you handle conflict

Because the hard truth is this:

Every relationship will face challenges.

Every relationship will have moments of disconnection.

The difference is in how two people respond to those moments.

Do they protect the relationship—or protect their ego?
Do they lean in—or pull away?
Do they repair—or let distance grow?

Relationships don’t fall apart because love disappears.

They fall apart when the behaviors that support love disappear.

And the ones that last?

They’re built by two people who keep showing up intentionally, consistently, and with care. 🤍

Initiation is one of the most misunderstood parts of intimacy.

It’s not about obligation- it’s about connection and desire being expressed.

Both partners play a role in creating that dynamic.

When it’s shared, it feels balanced and fulfilling.
