Our hearts are heavy today as we process the devastating news coming out of Canadian Forces Base Wainwright.

To our Canadian Armed Forces members, first responders, and the entire Wainwright and Alberta community: we stand with you during this incredibly painful time.

To the families who lost loved ones, to those waiting anxiously for news on injured service members, and to the medical teams and emergency responders working tirelessly on the front lines: you are in our thoughts, our prayers, and our hearts.

Your voice still belongs to you. Your choices still belong to you. Your life still belongs to you. Domestic violence can make someone feel as though their independence, confidence, and choices have disappeared. But safety, dignity, boundaries and support are not privileges: they matter.

During Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we honor Black women who are finding their voices, rebuilding their confidence and choosing a future rooted in peace.

When someone is grieving, you don't always need to find the right words or make the pain go away.

Sometimes, the most meaningful thing you can do is simply be there.
Listen without judgment.
Sit with them in the difficult moments.
Let them grieve without rushing them to feel better.
You don't have to fix their grief. Sometimes, your presence is enough.

Pregnancy Should Not Mean Living in Fear

Pregnancy should be a season where you feel supported, not controlled, threatened, isolated, or afraid.
Home should feel safe, too. This Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we stand with Black birthing women navigating situations that may be difficult to name, discuss, or leave. You deserve care that sees the whole you: your pregnancy, your emotional well-being, your choices, and your safety.

You deserve peace. You deserve support. You deserve to feel safe.

Sometimes what families need most is simply the chance to ask the question they have been carrying.

That's where BTM comes in and create spaces where families can hear from trusted physicians, nurses, doulas, mental health professionals and community experts: not from a distance, but through conversations designed to feel accessible, welcoming and relevant to real life.
Because access to an expert should not feel intimidating or out of reach.
It can look like asking the question you were too nervous to ask before.
It can look like finally understanding your options.
It can look like feeling heard.
It can look like walking away with greater clarity and confidence.

This Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we’re reminding our community that every Black birthing woman deserves to experience pregnancy, birth, postpartum and parenting with dignity, safety and support.

“What if I had done something differently?”
“Why did this happen?”
“Could I have prevented it?”
It’s natural to search for answers, but please remember: not everything has an explanation, and not everything is your fault.
Be gentle with yourself as you navigate the questions, the grief, and the healing.
You are not to blame for everything you cannot explain.
