Nurturing and Nourishing

Nurturing and Nourishing http://nurturingandnourishing.wordpress.com Through love I nurture and nourish the mind, body, and spirit of my family and anyone else who is interested.

My first passion is cooking so you will find lots of recipes and ideas on how to bring healthier foods into your life. I have created a large garden in my backyard and am growing lots of things through trial and error. I make things from scratch and buy things already made. I take everything with a grain of salt and a spoonful of sugar, so take what you want and leave what you don't. I am building a portfolio of healing modalities and have completed

Dr. Jay Gordon also sent out an email. Here's what he had to say about it. " Our office has received a large number of phone calls and emails about measles.

There are 21 reported cases in Orange County. I'm not aware of the number of cases in our immediate area.

In July, 2014, we celebrate the 30th year at 901 Montana and we have never had a child in our office contract measles. As many of you know, I use the MMR vaccine more sparingly than most pediatricians so I'm a bit surprised that the number is zero, but it is.

The media, as they often do, are covering this story quite heavily and the headlines make it appear that there is imminent great danger. In fact, the last fatality from measles in the USA was eleven years ago in 2003. Headlines speak of "ten times more measles in 2014." The newspaper articles often don't mention that California had very few cases of measles in the past five years so the 35 cases reported among 38,000,000 Californians is not a frighteningly large numerical jump. There have been about 80 cases of measles in the United States this year. All of these cases began with importation by travelers and then spread to close contacts. Measles is unlikely to be spread by a brief encounter or sharing a BART train.

The CDC defines outbreak as two cases spread from the same source. "

Found another giant zucchini in garden after being out of town for a week. This time I stuffed it with a quiche filling. Smells delicious, can't wait to try it.

I'm making mac and cheese for the kids for lunch. I made the cheese myself from raw goat milk, but the pasta is from a box. BTW love ancient grains' quinoa pasta.

If you are planning on doing selective/delayed vaccines for your kids and plan on them attending school, be sure to look into your state's public school requirements. The school requirements can be very different from the CDC recommendations. If you spread them out in accordance with the school requirements rather than the CDC you could end up with fewer rounds of vaccines. We do most of the major vaccines, but we spread them out. If we had changed the timing on them a little we would have avoided a few rounds and still met school requirements.

I've been detailing my family's experience with my oldest son starting kindergarten on my personal page, but I think I will move it over here. After 2 successful half days today is Patrick's first full day. A full 3 hours longer than the other 2 have been. We are all really feeling it today. Patrick was more tired and a bit reluctant getting out of the house this morning. I have had a heavy heart at my now quiet house. I am keeping positive thoughts and sending him lots of love and energy. I have gotten some housework done, though there is still lots to do. Instead of feeling everyday is 1 step forward 2 steps back in getting the house clean it's 2 steps forward, 1 step back. The cleaning momentum is on my side. As the next few days and weeks play-out is will be interesting to how it all works. I will continue to project positive energy and be excited about the opportunities this new adventure has to offer! I will allow myself to miss spending all day everyday with my little boy and knowing everything he does. I will also allow myself to be happy that I have more time to get things done for my family and for myself.

It seems as though many corporate producers of honey remove the pollen (the stuff that makes it a "superfood") in order to increase shelf life. Archaeologists have found honey dating back thousands of years to still be good. It does not spoil. Craziness.

It seems that corporations just can’t leave well enough alone. Even something as natural and historically revered as honey has to be processed until it is no longer the thing it used to be. Food Safety News conducted tests of honey sold at various outlets in 10 states and...

I know my posts have taken a more spiritual turn lately. I am on a journey right now and find that is my spiritual self that is need of the most attention right now. Body, mind, and soul are connected. You don't have to follow any particular religion to allow yourself to feel that. Thanks for continuing to be here.
