Estradiol isn’t the whole estrogen story.

While estradiol (E2) is the primary estrogen used in conventional hormone replacement therapy, another estrogen—estriol (E3)—may offer unique physiologic benefits through its interaction with estrogen receptor beta (ERβ).
ERβ receptors are widely distributed throughout the body and may influence:
✔️ Mood and serotonin pathways
✔️ Immune system function
✔️ Gut barrier integrity
✔️ Cognitive health
✔️ Healthy aging

Contrary to popular belief, estriol is not produced only during pregnancy. Women make estriol throughout life, although levels increase significantly during pregnancy.

This is one reason I often utilize compounded Biest, which combines estradiol and estriol, allowing for a more individualized approach to hormone optimization.

Hormone replacement should never be a cookie-cutter protocol. The right therapy depends on symptoms, lab data, health history, and individual goals.

If you’re taking hormones but still don’t feel like yourself, it may be time for a deeper evaluation.

Creatine is one of the most researched supplements in the world, yet many people still think it’s only for athletes.

The truth is that creatine helps your cells produce energy and may support:
✔️ Muscle strength and preservation
✔️ Exercise performance and recovery
✔️ Brain health and cognitive function
✔️ Healthy aging and metabolic health

I take 5 grams daily as part of my health routine.

Not all supplements live up to the hype, but creatine has decades of research behind it.

Always talk with your healthcare provider before starting a new supplement, especially if you have kidney disease or other medical conditions.

Your supplements could be sabotaging your health.

Just because something is sold at the drugstore or online does NOT mean it’s high quality.

The supplement industry has major gaps in regulation, which means:
⚠️ Ingredients may not match the label
⚠️ Some products contain fillers, dyes, contaminants, or oxidized oils
⚠️ Cheap forms may have poor absorption
⚠️ Potency can vary dramatically between brands

Quality, sourcing, bioavailability, and third-party testing matter.

A well-formulated supplement can support your health.
A poor-quality one may do nothing… or potentially create more inflammation and stress on the body.

This is why I recommend professional-grade supplements that prioritize:
✔️ purity
✔️ absorption
✔️ clinical dosing
✔️ independent testing
✔️ quality manufacturing standards

Your body deserves better than the cheapest bottle online.

A little mix of medicine, functional healing, lifelong learning, matcha-fueled mornings, content creation, and trying to help people feel like themselves again.

This honestly captures so much of who I am:
• listening deeply
• looking for root causes
• balancing science + intuition
• teaching while still learning
• believing healing is never one-size-fits-all

Being a physician is more than prescriptions and labs to me. It’s connection. It’s advocacy. It’s helping people understand their bodies and feel empowered in their health again.

Why do I often choose spore-based probiotics in my functional medicine practice?

Because survivability matters.

Many probiotic strains are extremely delicate and may not survive exposure to stomach acid, heat, moisture, or the digestive process itself.

Spore-based probiotics are uniquely designed with a natural protective coating that allows them to survive the harsh environment of the stomach and reach the intestines more effectively.

A healthy gut microbiome impacts far more than digestion — including inflammation, metabolism, immune health, mood, and brain function.

The key is choosing the right probiotic for the right patient.

Menopause belly is often driven by hormonal changes that increase visceral fat storage and reduce muscle mass.

Visceral fat is not just “extra weight.”
It’s biologically active fat linked to:
insulin resistance
inflammation
cardiovascular disease
fatty liver
cognitive decline

A study published in Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise found that HIIT training produced greater reductions in abdominal and visceral fat in postmenopausal women compared to moderate continuous cardio. Adding resistance training improved body composition even further.

This is why strength training and metabolic conditioning become even more important after menopause.

Train for:
✔ muscle
✔ insulin sensitivity
✔ metabolic health
✔ longevity

🥚 Could eggs help protect your brain as you age?

A new study published in The Journal of Nutrition followed nearly 40,000 older adults and found a remarkable association between egg consumption and a lower risk of Alzheimer’s disease.

Compared with people who rarely ate eggs:
✅ 1–3 servings per month → 17% lower Alzheimer’s risk
✅ 2–4 servings per week → 20% lower Alzheimer’s risk
✅ 5+ servings per week → 27% lower Alzheimer’s risk

Why might eggs be beneficial for brain health?

Eggs provide several nutrients that support cognitive function, including:
🧠 Choline – essential for acetylcholine production, memory, learning, and healthy brain cell membranes
🧠 Lutein & Zeaxanthin – antioxidants that may help protect brain tissue from oxidative stress
🧠 Vitamin B12 & Folate – important for methylation and neurological health
🧠 Omega-3 Fatty Acids – support healthy brain structure and function
🧠 High-Quality Protein – provides amino acids needed for neurotransmitter production

While this study cannot prove cause and effect, it adds to a growing body of evidence suggesting that simple dietary choices may have a meaningful impact on long-term brain health.

As always, brain health is multifactorial and also depends on metabolic health, exercise, sleep quality, stress management, social connection, and reducing inflammation.

How many eggs do you eat each week? Tell me below👇
