3 Landmine Glute Exercises

There are plenty of ways to target your glutes. If you want to use the Landmine more, here are three ways I like to incorporate them.

1️⃣ Lateral Force - Pushing out and away through the ground is a great way to light up the glutes. The Landmine Cursty Lunge sits a stretch into the hip then leg drive forces the glute to stabilize and drive. This is a fun one.

2️⃣ Hip Thrusts - Hip thrusts are a tried and true method for glute development. I find single leg hip thrusts to be very comfortable on the Landmine.

3️⃣ Single Leg Activity - Single Leg RDL’s, while a hamstring target, can do a really nice job in challenging the glutes. Specifically in single leg, you see increase in Glute Medius to stabilize the hip.

You can train your glutes with just about every modality but if you are looking to use the Landmine more, these are great options.

5 Landmine Press Variations I Use Regularly

One of the things I appreciate about the Landmine is that you can change the training effect without changing the exercise entirely.

A different stance or hand position is often enough to create a completely different challenge.

**1. Two-Hand Landmine Press**
The most stable option. Great for learning the pattern, building strength, and handling heavier loads.

**2. Single-Arm Landmine Press**
A little less stable, which means your trunk has to contribute more while each arm works independently.

**3. Landmine Y Press**
Turning sideways changes the pressing angle and challenges the shoulder through a different path than a traditional press.

**4. Landmine Z Press**
Sitting on the floor takes the lower body out of it, making trunk position and pressing mechanics the limiting factor.

**5. Floating Z Press**
Pulling the feet from the floor means your only base of support is your t**h. It’s giving Pilates Strength Coach

I don’t think one variation is “better” than another. Each has a purpose. The question is simply what adaptation you’re trying to get from the movement.

And this doesn’t erase the necessity for Traditional Strength Training Lifts

One of the Landmine’s more UNDERRATED Core Exercises

Landmine Bear Crawl

Starting Position:
Place your hands directly under the shoulders and grip the far end of the landmine with an overhand grip.

Push the shoulder blades apart, brace the core, and
then bend the knees to around 90 degrees to achieve a flat back position.

Walking the position forward and back

Recommend starting with 2-3 rounds of 2-3 times forward and back

Landmine Core Training

The missing piece is USUALLY driving IN towards the bar

Most people know how to do movements like Rainbows but neglect to drive with POWER into the bar

This frontside tension amplifies the movement for your midsection

So rather than adding more weight, add more INTENTION

Landmine Rotational Press

This is the movement that made me fall in love with the Landmine.

Rotation is in everything we do and gets programmed less than anything in our training.

This movement is a full expression of power!

Starting Position;
Standing parallel to the landmine, hold the far end of the landmine with the right hand in front of the hips. Place feet a little wider than hip width than you
would normally squat.

Coaching Cues
Bend the knees and break at the hips to sit down into a squat position with the landmine end centered in between the legs and around shin height

Explode up and to the right with the landmine by driving off of the left foot and rotating the entire body explosively so that you finish the move by
driving the landmine up into a locked-out position with the left hand.

That is 1 rep

Exercise Selection is like Grocery Shopping

You don’t need to know every item (exercise)

You don’t have to buy every brand (modality)

You need to know the staples for yourself

And buy the snacks (fun exercises) that make you happy

You don’t have to memorize the whole store, you just have to know what works for you!

3 Unconventional Landmine Exercises you should try

these are three lower body exercises I rotate in out of my program

The first is the Landmine Zercher Squat. This front loaded option put some great stress on the quads and mid back.

The second exercise is the Landmine Pendulum Lunge. This back-and-forth lunge keeps tension in the legs, alternating between the forward and reverse lunges.

The last exercise is the Landmine Hack Squat. This movement is great for targeting the quads and allows you smooth depth.

All three can have a solid purpose in a program and give you options to navigate in and out.
