Menopause was thinning my hair… three things I’m doing to help!

One of the biggest things I notice when I look at older pictures is that my hair used to be SO thick!

Things that have helped:
✨ Naturally increasing collagen through my grassfed beef protein ( honestly this has been the biggest game changer over the last few years because I’m very inconsistent with collagen supplements).

✨Getting inverted layers cut into my hair ( thank you .lynn for this tip)

✨ I am currently using ‘s LED Hair Regrowth System. I’m so excited about this! It’s just 10 minutes per day ( I do this while watching TV) and changes should occur in 16 weeks.

If you would like to join me on this 16 week journey, you can use code LISAKING for 10% off !

Cheers to thicker hair on the new year! Check out my favorite protein here too!

Using Hormone Replacement Therapy ( HRT) and still not feeling yourself?

As a pharmacist, here are three questions to ask your medical provider.

Do my symptoms need reassessment? Symptoms can change over time and new symptoms may need a shift in treatment.
Does my dose or dosage need to be evaluated? Dosage changes may need to be changed as we change.
Is what I’m feeling not hormonal? A lab evaluation may be necessary.

Be sure to SAVE this video for your next visit with your healthcare provider.

I’ll share my own experience here in the pinned comment.

Call it high maintenance… I call it doing more of what makes ME feel like ME !

One of the biggest things women often share in midlife is IDFLM - I don’t feel like myself.

Honestly, between creams, at home treatments, movement, hair and all the other self care it can feel like a lot.

If we can live out this chapter feeling vibrant, confident AND more like ourselves again it’s worth it! No shame in doing what you have to do to take care of YOU!

Thank you Lynn Felix for always letting me feel like the best version of me!

POV: you are getting more and more high maintenance in midlife but honestly… have never felt better.

One of the biggest things women often share in midlife is IDFLM - I don’t feel like myself.

Honestly, between counting grams of protein, lifting weights, layering on creams at night and all the other self care it can feel like a lot.

If we can live out this chapter feeling vibrant, confident AND more like ourselves again it’s worth it! No shame in doing what you have to do to take care of YOU!

If you’re suddenly planning your day around the nearest bathroom, menopause may be part of the conversation.

Declining estrogen can affect not only vaginal tissues but also the bladder and urethra. GSM ( Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause) can include:

• Dryness

• Burning

• Pain with intimacy

• Recurrent UTIs

• Bladder urgency

Here’s what’s happening:

Menopause lowers estrogen in vaginal tissue, leading to thinning, irritation, and changes in the microbiome (GSM). Vaginal Estrogen can be a helpful option for treating symptoms.

✨ Vaginal estrogen works locally where it’s needed

✨ Systemic absorption is minimal and dose-dependent

✨ Absorption may be slightly higher at first, then decreases as tissue improves

✨ Different formulations (creams, tablets, rings) offer options depending on preference

So why the hesitation?

Many women are told or assume:

• “It absorbs like hormone therapy” (it doesn’t in the same way)

• “It’s messy” (some options are much easier to use)

• “I’m already on estrogen” (systemic therapy often doesn’t fully treat GSM)

This isn’t about “more hormones”, it is about treating specific symptoms, the right way.

No one talks enough about this… is it too late to supplement with estrogen post-menopause?

As a pharmacist of 38 years, I can tell you traditionally treatment was started within 10 years of entering menopause and treatment was not given to women over 60 who had not previously been using HRT.

However ; there id no one-size-fits-all “cutoff” for treating menopausal symptoms.

While timing can influence certain risks and benefits, current evidence shared by The Menopause Society concludes HRT over 65 does have risks but does work for some women based on:

• your symptoms

• your health history

• your risk profile

• your quality of life

Evidence-based options can include:

• Estrogen therapy (when appropriate)- including vaginal estrogen for Genitourinary symptoms

• Non-hormonal medications- especially for hot flashes

• Targeted supplements- including magnesium for sleep

• Lifestyle interventions such as protein for bone and muscle support.

The most important message:

You still have options and it is not too late to have the conversation NOW with your healthcare provider!

🔥 You CAN reduce inflammation in your body… NO Ozempic NEEDED.

As a pharmacist, I’ve recently been asked A LOT about using GLP-1 medications to reduce inflammation in the body.

While I have nothing against these types of medications, there are dietary changes I recommend trying FIRST before using medication. This has worked for me in reducing inflammation and also weight release from inflammation!

Reducing inflammation can transform your energy, mood, and even your skin.

Start by cutting back on these big triggers:

🚫 Gums & fillers like guar gum and xanthum gum (often hiding in “healthy” snacks)

🚫 Seed oils like sunflower oil, canola or corn oil (look for olive, avocado, or coconut oil instead)

🚫 Refined sugar

🚫 Gluten & dairy (common culprits for bloating + joint pain) . I learned I was gluten and lactose intolerant through DNA testing.

Add in Omega 3 Fatty Acids through supplementation and food.

When you remove what’s causing inflammation you will start to feel more like YOU again!
