For as long as I can remember, I've been interested in gardening and making things. I have my mom to thank for the gardening genes as she was an enthusiastic gardener before I was. I remember her obsession with iris, then roses and now, daylilies. My summer memories take place outside, following her around the garden. My dad was the vegetable gardener, teaching me how to plant seeds and taking car
e of the garden. I hated hoeing and happily report I have since found ways to avoid it. I also loved making things whenever I had the opportunity, whether it was floral arrangements, embroidery or other crafts. Through my science class, I was afforded the opportunity to grow seeds in the greenhouse, and loved it. From that, I got my first seeds that I took to our home garden, where I planted Cockscomb and yellow pear tomatoes. After getting married and purchasing our first home, I attempted to identify what was already there. One plant, in particular, intrigued me. Later on, however, I learned it was lavender, and thus began my journey with herbs. I found that I could grow them, which led to researching ways to use them. This, coupled with a desire to take care of my family by using more natural products, I soon found myself making bath and body products, as well as herbal remedies. I was hooked. Nevertheless, that interest did not include soap right away because I'd read too many stories of bad things happening while making it. I soon gave in to glycerin soaps, otherwise known as melt & pour, enjoying the artistic aspect. Once I felt accomplished enough with my products, I began my business, Soap and Garden, to sell the soap and b&b products I'd been creating. Still, traditional soapmaking called to me. We went to the NY state fair one year, and I was blessed to watch a demonstration on soapmaking and realized then, I could do it. I went home and tried. My first batch was a success and the rest, as they say, is history. Combining my loves of gardening and herbs with my penchant for making things has been a most exciting venture for several years now. I strive to create natural products with garden goodness for my customers. I have a special affinity for gardeners, and have worked to create an effective line of soap and and body products to benefit them. I've had the privilege of writing for Making Soap, Cosmetics & Candles Magazine for 9 years now and was appointed to the position of Managing Editor in 2013. Additionally, I've been serving on the Board of Directors of the Handcrafted Soap & Cosmetic Guild for 5 years. I guess you could say I'm immersed in bubbles! Gardeners, since I share your passion and know what you go through, I am in a unique position to develop products especially for you. I hope you will give our products a try. You'll be back!
