PHARMACY Q&A: Can I Take Multiple Vitamins Together?

The answer is: sometimes — but more isn’t necessarily better.

If you take several vitamins or supplements, it’s important to know exactly what’s in each one. Some products contain overlapping ingredients, which could mean you’re getting more of a particular vitamin or mineral than you realize.

A few things to keep in mind:

• Check the labels. A multivitamin, individual vitamin and specialty supplement may contain some of the same nutrients.

• More isn’t always better. Certain vitamins and minerals can cause problems when taken in excessive amounts.

• Timing can matter. Some vitamins and minerals are absorbed differently depending on whether you take them with food, and some can interfere with certain medications.

• Tell your pharmacist what you take. Be sure to mention all prescription medications, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins and supplements. This helps your pharmacist identify potential interactions or duplicate ingredients.

• Ask before adding something new. If you’re considering adding another vitamin or supplement to your routine, your pharmacist can help you determine whether it makes sense for you.

And remember, “natural” doesn’t automatically mean risk-free. Supplements can have real effects on your body and can interact with medications.

Have questions about your vitamins or supplements? Ask us — we’re happy to help!

Your neighborhood pharmacy is here to help you make informed choices about your health and wellness.

COLD & FLU SEASON IS COMING. 🍂🤧

Nobody wants to be caught without the basics when a cough, fever or stuffy nose strikes. Before the season gets into full swing, take a few minutes to check your medicine cabinet and make sure you have the essentials on hand.

Consider having:

✓ A reliable thermometer — Helpful for keeping track of a fever.

✓ Pain & fever relief — Keep an appropriate option on hand for those days when you’re feeling under the weather.

✓ Cough & cold essentials — Depending on your symptoms, you may want products for cough, congestion or sore throat.

✓ Saline nasal spray — A simple option that can help with nasal dryness and congestion.

✓ Tissues & hand sanitizer — The everyday essentials you’ll be glad you have nearby.

✓ Hydration — Water, electrolyte drinks and other hydrating beverages can be especially helpful when you're not feeling your best.

✓ First-aid basics — Bandages, antiseptic and other supplies are always good to have stocked.

A few tips before you reach for an over-the-counter cold or flu product: Check the active ingredients, follow the label directions and ask your pharmacist if you take prescription medications or have questions about which product is right for you. Some combination products contain the same ingredients, so taking more than one can accidentally lead to too much of a medication.

And remember — antibiotics don't treat viral illnesses like most colds and the flu.

Not sure what you need? Ask us! We're happy to help you prepare your medicine cabinet before you need it.

DON’T WAIT UNTIL YOU’RE SICK. 🍂

Fall and cold & flu season have a way of sneaking up on us. A little preparation now can make those unexpected sick days a whole lot easier.

Take a few minutes to check your home health essentials:

✓ Prescriptions — Make sure you have enough medication and request refills before you run low.

✓ Vaccines — Talk with your pharmacist or healthcare provider about recommended vaccines for the season ahead.

✓ First-Aid Supplies — Check your bandages, antiseptic, burn care and other basics. Replace anything that’s expired or running low.

✓ Cold & Flu Essentials — Be prepared with the items you may need when a cough, congestion, sore throat or fever strikes.

✓ Vitamins & Supplements — Review what you’re taking and ask your pharmacist if you have questions about your supplements or how they fit with your medications.

✓ Thermometer — A simple essential that’s easy to overlook until you need one.

✓ Hand Sanitizer — Keep some handy at home, in the car or in your bag.

A few minutes of preparation now can save you a last-minute trip when you're not feeling your best.

And if you’re not sure what you should have on hand or have questions about your medications, ask us! We’re always happy to help.

🍂 September = Reset Season

Summer may be winding down, but September is the perfect time to reset, recharge and get back into healthy routines that make you feel your best.

As schedules get busier and fall gets underway, take a moment to check in with yourself:

• Get back into a routine — Reestablish regular meal times, exercise and daily habits that may have slipped during the summer.

• Stay active — Whether it’s walking, working out, taking a class or simply moving more throughout the day, find activities you enjoy and can stick with.

• Eat well — Focus on nourishing foods, plenty of fruits and vegetables, and balanced meals that fuel you for the season ahead.

• Prioritize sleep — A consistent sleep schedule and enough quality rest can make a big difference in how you feel.

• Stay hydrated — Cooler temperatures don’t mean your body needs less water. Keep drinking throughout the day!

• Review your medications — Take a look at your prescriptions, refills and medications. If you have questions about how or when to take them, your pharmacist is here to help.

• Check your vaccines — Fall is a great time to review recommended vaccinations and make sure you’re up to date for the season ahead.

• Take care of YOU — Wellness isn’t just about checking things off a list. Make time for yourself, manage stress and pay attention to what your body and mind need.

A new season is a great opportunity for a fresh start. And remember, your neighborhood pharmacy is here to help support your health and wellness along the way.

Stop in and see us at Sea Cliff Chemists — we’re here for you this fall and every season.

PHARMACY Q&A: Should I Take My Vitamins in the Morning or at Night? 💊

The answer? It depends! There isn’t one “best” time of day for every vitamin or supplement. Timing can depend on the specific vitamin, whether it’s best taken with food, and even what other medications or supplements you take.

Here are a few general tips:

• Some vitamins are better with food. Fat-soluble vitamins such as vitamins A, D, E and K are generally absorbed better when taken with a meal containing some fat.

• Some supplements may be easier on your stomach with a meal. If a vitamin makes you feel nauseous when taken on an empty stomach, try taking it with food unless your healthcare provider has instructed otherwise.

• Consistency matters. For many supplements, taking them consistently at about the same time each day can make it easier to remember.

• Timing can matter with certain supplements and medications. Some vitamins and minerals can affect the absorption or effectiveness of certain medications, so it’s important to let your pharmacist know everything you take—including over-the-counter supplements.

And remember: “natural” doesn’t automatically mean risk-free. More isn’t always better, and the right supplement routine depends on your individual needs.

Have questions about your vitamins, supplements or when to take them? Ask us—we’re happy to help!
