Sometimes, the people carrying the heaviest things are the ones you’d never expect.

They’re the ones making everyone laugh. Showing up to work. Taking care of their children. Keeping plans. Checking in on everyone else. Smiling in pictures. Saying, “I’m fine.”

And sometimes, they’re doing all of that while quietly trying to make it through a day that feels heavier than anyone knows.

This Su***de Prevention Month, may we remember to look a little closer. To check in one more time. To listen a little longer. To love people a little louder.

And if you’re the person who has gotten really good at saying “I’m fine” when you’re anything but… please know you don’t have to keep carrying it quietly.

There is no shame in needing someone. There is no weakness in asking for help. And you are worthy of care, even on the days when you don’t feel like yourself.

At First Due Care, we want you to know there is a place for you to talk, to be heard, and to get the support you need. We offer psychiatric medication management with same-week availability for ages 7 and up.

If you or someone you love is experiencing suicidal thoughts or emotional distress, call or text 988 to reach the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline.

🧠 Let’s talk psychiatric medication management.

One of the biggest misconceptions we hear is that starting psychiatric medication means you’ll be taking it forever. That isn’t always the case! Treatment is individualized, and your needs may change over time.

Medication management is about finding the right treatment for you, monitoring how you’re feeling, discussing side effects or concerns, and making adjustments when appropriate. 💗

✨ Need support sooner rather than later?
First Due Care currently has same-week psychiatric medication management openings for ages 7 and up!

Whether you’re looking for an initial evaluation, have concerns about current medications, or feel like your treatment plan may need an adjustment, we’re here to help.

💧 Electrolytes Every Day: Necessary… or Just Expensive Flavored Salt? 👀

Electrolyte packets are everywhere right now. They promise better hydration, more energy, fewer headaches, improved workouts… but does everyone really need to add electrolytes to their water every day?

First, what even are electrolytes?
Electrolytes are minerals — including sodium, potassium, magnesium and calcium — that help your body regulate fluid balance and support normal nerve, muscle and heart function.

For most healthy adults going about a normal day, plain water + a balanced diet is usually enough to maintain hydration and electrolyte levels.

But there ARE times when replacing electrolytes may be helpful, such as:

💦 Heavy sweating or prolonged exercise
☀️ Working or exercising outside in hot weather
🤢 Vomiting or diarrhea
🏃‍♀️ Long or intense workouts
💧 Significant fluid loss or dehydration
🩺 Certain medical situations, when recommended by your healthcare provider

So why not drink them every day anyway?

Some electrolyte drinks and powders contain a surprisingly high amount of sodium and/or added sugar. If your body doesn’t need the extra electrolytes, more isn’t necessarily better — and that trendy hydration packet may just be making your water considerably more expensive. 😂

Also, electrolyte needs are not one-size-fits-all. People with certain kidney, heart or blood pressure conditions, or those taking certain medications, should be especially careful about routinely adding extra sodium or potassium without discussing it with their healthcare provider.

The bottom line:
💧 Regular day? Water is usually perfectly fine.
🥵 Sweating heavily, sick, dehydrated or doing prolonged exercise? Electrolytes may be useful.
🧂 Drinking them every single day “just because”? You may not need them.

And remember — feeling thirsty, tired or getting headaches doesn’t automatically mean you have an electrolyte imbalance. If you’re experiencing frequent symptoms despite staying hydrated, it may be worth talking with your healthcare provider instead of adding another scoop to your Stanley. 😉

TikTok says you’re in perimenopause at 35… but is it really your hormones? 👀

If your FYP has convinced you that your fatigue, mood swings, trouble sleeping, weight changes, brain fog, or changes in your period MUST mean perimenopause… you’re definitely not the only one wondering. 😅

While perimenopause can begin earlier for some women, these symptoms can also overlap with MANY other things, including:

✨ Thyroid changes
✨ Iron or vitamin deficiencies
✨ Stress & poor sleep
✨ Medication side effects
✨ Anxiety or depression
✨ Blood sugar changes
✨ Other hormonal changes

The takeaway? Your symptoms are real, but TikTok can’t tell you WHY they’re happening.

If something feels different in your body, bring it up with your healthcare provider. A conversation about your symptoms, medical history, cycle changes, medications, and appropriate testing can help figure out what’s actually going on.💞🦋

Sometimes “I just want to make sure” is reason enough. 🤍

Getting a second medical opinion doesn’t mean you don’t trust your provider. Sometimes you simply need another perspective, more information, or reassurance before making a decision about your health.

Whether you’re unsure about a diagnosis, considering different treatment options, or just feel like something still isn’t adding up, it’s okay to ask more questions.

Your health is personal. You deserve to feel informed, heard, and comfortable with your next steps.

Caring for someone who’s sick can take a lot out of you, too. 🤍

When someone you love isn’t feeling well, it’s easy to put all of your energy into making sure they’re okay and forget that you need care, too.

A few gentle reminders for caregivers:

🤍 Keep yourself hydrated and nourished
🤍 Rest when you can
🤍 Wash your hands and take precautions to protect your own health
🤍 Let others help when they offer
🤍 Give yourself small breaks throughout the day
🤍 Pay attention to your own physical and emotional needs

Taking care of yourself doesn’t mean you’re taking care of them any less. In fact, caring for you helps you continue showing up for the people who need you.

And remember, you don’t have to figure everything out alone. If you’re concerned about your loved one’s symptoms or your own, First Due Care is here to help. 🩺✨
