Today, we’re proud to share a reflection of what has been built through care, vision, and thousands of voices: our Community Design Overview Report.

Over the past six years, our work has grown from a bold question—what if healthcare was designed by us, for us?—into real, living systems of care. Through more than 24,000 community touchpoints, research, and collective visioning, we have shaped and delivered a model rooted in dignity, belonging, and whole-person healing.

We have followed the blueprints designed by community, and they have led us to this moment. In the coming weeks, we will gather to turn the soil on what our collective vision has helped build: the Tubman Health Center. As construction begins, this report offers a look back at what we’ve built together—and a look ahead at what becomes possible when community leads the way.

Today, we’re proud to share our 2025 Annual Report with you, a record of a year shaped by care, persistence, and collective power.

Over time, our annual reports have evolved. Seen together, they hold more than design choices. Between the covers lies our story, an arc of growth and momentum for the Campaign for Health & Freedom. A growing organization. A growing community. A deepening body of work rooted in dignity, healing, and power.

We invite you to read, reflect, and celebrate what we built together in 2025. Read the report at www.tubmanhealth.org/updates/2025-annual-report.

Affirming care is a practice. At Tubman Health, it’s part of who we are. We are an LGBTQIA+ founded and led organization. Being affirming isn’t an add-on; it’s embedded in how we operate, every day.

Here are some examples of what that looks like in practice:

• Getting you the care you deserve, not the care that an algorithm prescribes based on assigned s*x at birth.

• Our electronic health record system wasn’t designed with the full spectrum of gender identities in mind. Rather than accept that limitation, we’ve created workarounds and our own intake forms that allow patients to self-identify in ways that are accurate, affirming, and respected throughout their care.

• We don’t design programs in isolation. We organize with LGBTQIA+ community members and make sure our research, services, and decisions reflect the people we serve.

• We pay attention to how people show up. That means using the right pronouns, respecting identities, and practicing care that aligns with each person’s needs—not assumptions.

Affirming care should be felt at every step, from the first form to the exam room and beyond.

Spring is showing off at the Healing House garden 🌸✨

This time of year, the garden has a way of inviting everyone to slow down for a moment: to pause, take in the beauty, and inevitably snap a few photos along the way.

Pictured here: Nelly Moser Clematis (purple), Sally Holmes Shrub Rose (yellow), plus a few moments of some Tubman team members taking in the garden’s beauty together!

Come soak in the beauty of the garden and help it continue to flourish at our gardening session this Sunday, May 17th. Learn more and register at www.tubmanhealth.org/event-calendar

For many Black young people, the internet is not an escape from racism—it is another place where it shows up. A study published earlier this year found that more than 88% of Black young adults ages 18–29 experienced or were exposed to online racism in the past six months, and that this exposure was associated with a greater likelihood of using digital mental health tools.

“Black youth and young adults deal with racism in real life and then go online only to get hit with more of it.” said Keisha Saunders-Waldron in an article by AFRO-American Newspapers. “We are waiting for people to appear mentally concerning enough to diagnose instead of acknowledging the toll racism takes before it becomes a disorder.”

The compounded impact of facing racism both in-person and online underscores the need to equip young people with tools to process racial trauma and build solutions rooted in community.

At Tubman Health’s Community Health Research Institute, youth leaders are doing exactly that through Healing through Action Research for Power (HARP)—a project that trains young people to identify community mental health needs, build a research and policy agenda, and develop community-driven solutions for mental health while building their own mental health toolkits.

Pilates didn’t start as a boutique workout—it started as a method of survival, rehabilitation, and restoring agency to the body.

Our newest thought piece traces the origins of Pilates and the powerful contributions of Joseph Pilates, Kathy Stanford Grant, and Lo**ta San Miguel, whose work helped expand access and redefine who movement is for.

March marked the close of the 2026 state legislative session—and what a session it was!

Every time we’re in Olympia, our message remains clear: Washington State must continue to lead the way on health justice.

We’re incredibly proud of the progress made this session—advancing a number of key priorities related to prescription drug access, immigrant justice, reproductive justice, and more, including continued momentum toward the Tubman Health Center capital project.

Deep gratitude to our legislative partners for your continued support and partnership 💛
