YES!!

Why are we still afraid to test EVERYONE?? I have said this several times and I will say it again. At the very least you should know your fasting insulin levels. If your doctor will not test them...find a new doctor!

I will die on this hill if I have to but I cannot begin to tell you the amount of research on so many different disease states that STARTS with hyperinsulinemia. And the real killer is...its preventable. It is happening decades before classically recognized symptoms manifest and only then is the medical community quick to act...usually with a drug🤦🏻‍♂️WE. MUST. DO. BETTER.

We have gotten so good at treating T2D symptoms( poor blood glucose control) that we are failing to address the root cause. T2D is an insulin resistant state! That is driving the disease.

Insulin should not be considered a drug to treat a disease. Insulin is a critical hormone that helps shuttle nutrients into the cell and also happens to lower blood sugar levels. It was never meant to be chronically elevated and here's another fun fact...the pancreas, which produces insulin, is 98% exocrine and only about 2% endocrine! What does that mean? It means that's by far and away it's primary role is the breakdown of food and NOT to control blood sugar. Our poor western diet has forced it into working overtime and that is why we see T2D and other chronic diseases at epidemic levels.

Know your numbers and start learning what foods help keep blood sugar excursions to a minimum. It's probably one of the best things you can do for your overall health!

Yes I see this often- folks on keto just don’t get sick as often. No sugar to wreck the gut and immune system

Mice fed a ketogenic — or very low-carb — diet were better able to combat the flu virus than mice fed food high in carbohydrates, according to a new Yale study.

The benefits of ketosis are many and I have seen many people improve their health by training their body to burn fat and ketones. While I don't think it is necessary to stay in ketosis all the time, I choose to. If you do break it by eating too many carbs just make sure you get back into it by fasting or restrictung carbohydrates. Keto is not a fad diet, its a metabolic state in the body that has helped so many achieve higher levels of health.

Oh Harvard...always slow on the uptake 🤣

It is nice to see the mainstream coming around to the understanding that humans are absolutely NOT designed for chronic consumption of food. "Eat 6 small meals a day", said the dietitian. "As long as your snacks are healthy you're fine" said the other dietitian.

Obviously I'm being a wise ass but the truth is that this advice is not helping anyone be healthier. Just think for a moment about how our physiology works and how it does not. When in all of human history have we had availability of food the way we do now? Never! And we don't have the GI tract or hormonal systems in place to handle constant input.

Fasting is different for everyone and yes, just about everyone can do some form or another of meal timing and time restricted feeding. I've been doing this for a long time now...since 2014, before it was trendy. It has many many benefits but you do have to understand how it works and what to watch out for.

The many benefits of fasting are still being uncovered and it is just another tool in your arsenal to achieve an optimal level of health. You do have to eat eventually though😁 so choosing the most nutrient dense, bioavailable forms of fuel possible is also something to consider. Remember food in information.
