The goal was never really the smaller size.

So many women come to me wanting to lose weight, and when I ask why, it almost always traces back to confidence. Fix that first and so much else starts falling into place. Chase the size on its own and you skip right over the thing that actually matters.

If this one hit home, save it for a day you need the reminder, and send it to a friend who’s been hard on herself lately.
What would shift for you if confidence came first? Tell me in the DMs. 📧

Believe it or not, this time of year can bring on depression for people. Kids have graduated, another school year has past, we’re halfway through the year and people are evaluating their businesses, summer is busy and sometimes overwhelming with plans… and all of this could cause a person to shut down. A while back Jill had Marianne Marlow, a seasoned couples therapist and founder of This Love Works. Hear what she had to say on the topic and know if you’re feeling this way, you aren’t alone.

This week, Jill has been focused on grief. There's not a specific reason for that topic on precisely this week - and that's the point.

Grief can hit on a beautiful summer day, for no reason at all. And as Going the Distance guest, Nadia Ahrens, said, "the only way through it is through."

Know that if you're facing something tough right now, someone else out there is too. You're not alone, you're never alone.

What do these pants, bachelorette parties, and ice cream all have in common? They're all tied to grief.

What do we mean? This week on Substack, Jill writes about how grief can stop you in your tracks when you're just going through life. Packing for a trip. On vacation. You never know when it'll hit.

So just because it's summer, the season everyone seems so happy, doesn't mean you're safe from getting smacked in the face with grief from the past. And if you feel that way, you aren't alone. Truly.

The pants in this photo? They stopped Jill in her tracks while she was packing. Read the full story:

Get your day organized by grouping your tasks together. Jill's philosophy about "baseball tasks" is a great way to get things done. If you're struggling with how to get that to-do list checked off and need a plan, try this strategy (substitute Love Island for baseball if that's more your speed).

Be honest. How many times this week did you accept a meeting, answer a message, or agree to a task without actually stopping to think?

If your calendar is running your life instead of the other way around, the problem usually isn’t discipline. It’s the reflexive yes.

Try the five-second pause for one day. Something comes in, you wait five seconds, and you ask whether it truly needs you at all. You’ll be surprised how much you would have taken on that was never yours to carry.

Your time is valuable. Start protecting it like it is.

One of the most important pieces of advice Jill gives clients is how to manage interruptions, brain focus, tasks. A while back she was welcomed to Substack Live by Gillian Goddard of and we talked about all the tools we can use to actually get through the day and be successful doing so.

Here's a quick clip from that conversation. You can find the whole thing on our latest Substack:

Sometimes I like to take a moment and reintroduce myself and what we do here at Go Long.

As an accountability coach, Jill works with people at all ages and stages who need a little kick in the pants to get to their own goal. She does it all by text so it’s unobstrusive, and confidential.

You can get to know Jill through her podcast, Going the Distance, and her Substack, The Mid-Life Edit.

Last week was Jill and Marc's 20th wedding anniversary. On her Substack, "The Mid-Life Edit," she shared about her Aunt Helaine.

Aunt Helaine was the kind of person who opened doors - and helped to make sure you were ready when that door inched open. Jill shares the story of her aunt helping her network for her first job, and then helped her buy the suit to wear to the interview. She shared the family heirloom china with Jill and always made everyone's favorite recipes at family dinners.

She was also, as Jill puts it, the best bu****it detector she'd ever encountered. She could tell when someone was putting on airs and wasn't right for the member of the family to stay with. We on the Go Long team believe Jill's Aunt Helaine set her up to know how she could help people and make a difference in their lives.

Jill gets to the bottom of someone else's problems. Sometimes she helps them face the truth they know is there but they don't want to see. Sometimes she gives them that extra little push to go from below basecamp to the summit they've been reaching for.

Read Jill's substack this week and we bet you'll be as inspired as we are to get up, get going, and seek help for what we are having trouble doing ourselves.
