As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and continuous improvement, MEDEX Northwest is pleased to announce the MEDEX Accreditation Status Dashboard.

This dashboard provides an up‑to‑date overview of our accreditation status, progress to date, and anticipated future actions. It will be refreshed as new information becomes available and serves as a centralized source for MEDEX accreditation updates.

As an important reminder, while MEDEX is assigned Accreditation-Probation status, the program remains fully accredited, as probation status does not constitute a withdrawal of accreditation.

The dashboard can be accessed here https://bit.ly/MEDEX-Accreditation-Dashboard-fb and other helpful information can be accessed via our main Accreditation page here: https://bit.ly/MEDEX-Accreditation-fb

📣🗓️ April 23: Support MEDEX Northwest Students on Husky Giving Day

When unexpected challenges arise, the MEDEX Student Emergency Fund helps keep students on track – providing immediate support for essentials like housing, transportation, childcare, and other urgent needs.

Join the UW community on Husky Giving Day, April 23, and be part of a collective effort to make a meaningful impact on our students. Together, we can help MEDEX students overcome financial barriers and continue their journey to becoming compassionate healthcare providers serving communities across our region.

Every gift matters, and every donor makes a difference.

Congratulations to MEDEX Spokane faculty member and alumna Allison Luedke, recipient of this year's Washington Academy of Physician Associates Trailblazer of the Year award! The following is excerpted from her inspiring speech from the awards ceremony on March 8:

"When I think of trailblazers in our profession, I think of the PAs who bring care to underserved communities, who shape legislation, who build new programs from the ground up, and who advocate tirelessly for our profession. I have so much respect for those individuals and the paths they are forging.

My own path has been a little different.

In many ways, I still feel like I’m at the beginning of my career, learning every day from colleagues, mentors, and students. So I’ve spent some time thinking about what 'trailblazing' might mean in this context.

Maybe trailblazing isn’t always about creating entirely new paths. Sometimes it’s about continuing the path that others created before us, and doing our part to keep it strong for the next generation.

I also want to acknowledge the people who truly are the trailblazers in my life, my mentors at MEDEX, especially Sarah Serpinas, who shaped the clinician and educator I’m becoming, my colleagues in the operating room and clinic who teach me constantly, and the students who inspire me with their dedication, perseverance, and enthusiasm.

This award is not something I see as a finish line. If anything, it feels like encouragement to keep growing, to keep supporting students, to keep caring for patients, and to keep contributing to this profession that has given me so much.

Thank you to WAPA for this unexpected honor, and thank you to all of you for the work you do every day to advance the PA profession. I’m truly grateful to be part of it."

MULTIPLY MY HANDS: THE LIFE OF DR. RICHARD SMITH
CHAPTER EIGHT: THE BIRTH OF MEDEX NORTHWEST, PART TWO

We’re happy to announce that the second half of our extended look at Dr. Richard Smith’s creation of MEDEX Northwest is now available on MEDEX Magazine:

"Chapter Eight: The Birth of MEDEX Northwest, Part Two" opens in Seattle in 1969 and ends in with Smith eyeing a move to Hawaii in 1972, and explores along the way:

• the careful steps taken in selecting the first class of MEDEX Northwest students,
• the detailed work of designing and implementing a pragmatic and appropriate curriculum,
• the strategic efforts to establish enabling state legislation for this new healthcare profession,
• the deep satisfaction of seeing the members of MEDEX Northwest Class One walk across the graduation stage,
• the concentrated efforts to publicize the MEDEX idea more widely through national print and television media,
• the establishment of eight more MEDEX programs in states across the nation, and finally
• the difficult decision to pass the reins of MEDEX Northwest Program Director on and relocate to Hawaii.

This impressive list of accomplishments in such a short span of time should be familiar to all who have followed MULTIPLY MY HANDS to this point and learned of a life driven by ideals, intentions, strategies, connections, actions and outcomes.

We hope you’ll enjoy this next stop along Smith’s remarkable journey: bit.ly/mmh-ch8-birthofmedex-parttwo
