Lipedema is a chronic connective tissue disorder that causes an abnormal buildup of fat, most commonly in the legs, hips, buttocks, and sometimes the arms. It primarily affects women and is often misunderstood as obesity or lymphedema.
Common signs of lipedema include:
• Painful or tender fat tissue
• Easy bruising
• Swelling that worsens throughout the day
• Fat that is resistant to diet and exercise
• A disproportionate appearance between the upper and lower body
Despite affecting millions of women worldwide, lipedema remains underdiagnosed and underrecognized.
Awareness is the first step toward earlier diagnosis, better treatment options, and improved quality of life for those living with lipedema.
This Lipedema Awareness Month, help us spread the word.
