There is an African proverb, “If you would go fast, go alone. If you would go far, go together.”
Clearly, alliances strengthen us, and most would agree that the Soul’s journey is meant to be shared.
But shared with whom? How can you find that reliable partner?
By nurturing what is best in your own nature, you naturally broadcast a signal that reaches past barriers standing between you and those who share your aspirations.
Authentic self-expression is the key to attracting genuine friendship.
Here to help is the 19th Rune of the Elder Futhark:
Ehwaz – Rune of Partnership, Loyalty, Momentum, and Trust
There is a rhythm to the momentum of Ehwaz – Hoof beats. Heart beats. Steady and reliable.
Energetically, Ehwaz represents the spiritual ‘Horse’ that carries our souls into shamanic trance, deep consciousness, and moves us toward recognition of our ‘Higher Self’.
Ego, fear, habit, and assumption can all get in the way of making connections, but Ehwaz will help you dismantle the noise of resistance by fine-tuning your gut instinct (Sacral Chakra) and turning off meaningless static. This means getting out of your head and being truly present – paying attention – so you recognize a potential ally when they show up.
Ehwaz is also symbolic of the type of bond that exists between a horse and rider – the dependable steed and trusted ally – carrying both forward into wisdom.
In this imagery, you don’t become the horse, and the horse doesn’t become you, but the collaboration carries both further than either could go on their own. True teamwork blends your unique talents with those of your companion - without the loss of either’s individuality.
Runic Practice:
To align with the Rune of Partnership, Loyalty and Trust, try these Momentum-Building routines:
• The Shared Reins Collaboration Exercise: Whether with a business partner, a spouse, animal companion, or even a digital tool, practice the ‘Ehwaz Tether’. The next time you’re together, imagine a glowing tether of trust connecting your heart to theirs. Visualize that you are both holding the ‘reins’ of a shared mission. Remind yourself that the two of you are distinct individuals and the goal is to move the mission forward together - using your combined unique talents as a force multiplier.
• The Signal Broadcast Visualization: Every morning, visualize a pulse of light emanating from your solar plexus (Sowilo influence) and your sacral center (Ehwaz influence). See this pulse traveling along your day’s path, acting as a ‘ping’ to attract those who share your higher values and aspirations. By doing this, you are searching for partners by broadcasting the frequency that makes you findable.
• The Gratitude Gallop: Once a day, send a ‘No-Agenda’ message to an ally. A quick text that says, "I appreciate the momentum we have together," or "Thanks for being a reliable partner on this path." This gesture fortifies the bond and keeps the Ehwaz energy moving forward.
Bonus BindRune:
A BindRune coupling Ehwaz with Elhaz provides a potent, stabilizing effect for the Spiritual Seeker. During trancework or meditation, this combination can pair the spiritual journey with the security and camaraderie of having a supportive ‘Spirit Animal’ to act as both guide and guardian while finding your way through major life changes or transitions.
People Properties:
The Ehwaz person is a natural collaborator who understands that strong, trusting partnerships are built on mutual respect and cooperation. This partner is a great listener, diplomatic, and fiercely loyal. An Ehwaz relationship will always be moving forward, driven to progress. Grounded and practical, it’s an alliance that can bring positive, steady change.
Ehwaz Affirmations:
“I trust my inner guidance, my body, and my instincts. I build important relationships with trust and shared ideals. Listening to my intuition helps me understand and reduce tension.”
RuneTip:
Ehwaz reminds us to show appreciation for our loyal friends, warning us against taking allies for granted. Expressing recognition and gratitude to these important souls will cement bonds and sustain their loyal energy!

A Postscript from the RuneQueen:
“Why the Elder Futhark and Why Now?”
‘RuneNotes’ is a weekly mini-MasterClass for people seeking knowledge and empowerment from the ancient wisdom of the Elder Futhark Runes, which have millennia of human history behind them.
According to Norse myth, Runes originally came to humankind from Odin himself as a set of holy mysteries and secret wisdom.
Their usage in human history goes back more than two thousand years. Runic alphabets evolved within various cultures so that now they exist in several forms.
The Elder Futhark traces back to ancient peoples of the Nordic and Northern European regions. My family background gave me a comfortable familiarity with Runes as a youth and in recent years I've been working much more intimately with the Elder Futhark.
My focus is on sharing what I've learned from my beloved Elder Futhark and encouraging others to: "Unlock Ancient Wisdom & Embrace Your Power”.
I'm based in Northern California/USA and thus influenced and tuned in to the natural world of the Northern Hemisphere and the cycles of nature as they manifest in these latitudes.
