Merry Christmas all!! Natu and Mamakou (who lives across the street) organized a community Christmas event. It started with everyone who lives on our road cleaning up any litter. Then there were games for the kids. They play “the lappa game”. The rules escape me but basically the idea is to arrange ten pairs of flip flops in a row, count them (by twos) and then scramble them up again. Sounds easy but the other team is throwing a ball (sock filled with sand -ouch) at you the whole time. If they hit you, you’re out. There were 4 teams of younger kids and 4 of older.
After the games and prizes,everyone gathers at Mamakou and Abdul’s place to eat. We provided much of the food but most of the neighborhood took part in preparing it.
The uniforms for the children were part of the immensely generous donation from Albertha, a dear friend in Florida, who always sends things for the kids.
The world is what you make it! Hope all your days are happy and May 2024 bring you joy!

We went to Edina, which is the name of the town where I went to High School! It is a very historic place. This is a very international group who were here as election observers. The recent election had only minor incidents and President Weah graciously conceded defeat. People all over the world were afraid of violence or fighting about the results or even a coup. It turned out to be exemplary. Just like what happens in the US! Uh, wait…..
We continue to do our surgery. There is no shortage of cases here!

Life goes on here. I have my Big Green Egg and connections to get some good meats! But I need for starters. So Natu has made some all natural ones for me to try! They also have herbs to keep flies away. The neighbor harvested peanuts (called groundpea) here. She roasted them and gave me a bottle for Christmas!

The cleanest road in Liberia! Natu organized another neighborhood clean up project. This is the road to our house. She got everyone to pick up all the trash and cut and burn the brush encroaching on the sides of the road. She provided food that was cooked by the neighborhood women to feed everybody. Typical Natu!!

Liberia was fortunate to have Dr. Kelly Krawczyk and her students from Auburn University visiting. They are involved in a variety of non-profit activities and are now assisting Liberia Medical Relief (with much needed guidance). They had an opportunity to see the hospital and get an understanding of our activities. Thanks, team!
