As an ongoing practice, Nia promotes mindfulness and well-being. Nia empowers people of all shapes and sizes to connect to their body, mind, emotions and spirit by paying attention to sensation. Experience
Nia is sens

ational! Every Nia class guides students to mindfully focus on sensation in their body while listening and dancing to music. Each class has its own kind of magic that fosters personal creativity and expression. Nia is practiced barefoot. Through non-impact choreography and listening to the intelligence of the body's design, Nia delivers a holistic fitness experience. Every class is tailored and adapted to individual needs and abilities. Nia teachers are trained to show students a variety of intensity levels and ways to modify movements to safely condition their bodies. Typically, Nia classes are 60 minutes and include a mindful intention, warm-up, aerobic conditioning, strength training, cool down and movements promoting flexibility. Nia choreography is based on 52 moves designed to exercise every joint and muscle group in the body. Nia classes are taught by licensed Nia teachers. Purpose
Nia’s purpose is to grow a worldwide community of healthy people empowered to do great things. We believe every person can discover, explore, unleash and enhance their individual potential to live a fulfilling and meaningful life – by engaging their senses and listening to their bodies.

This New Moon in Gemini permeates our entire existence with an especially restless energy. All kinds of flitting and fluttering possibilities emerge as this mutable-air lunation deluges us in a torrent of thoughts and ideas, stimulating a quickening of the intellect and rapid shifts in perspective.

Though our Moon is hardly a rare celestial phenomenon—Jupiter, for instance, has over a hundred satellites circling around it—here on Earth, we hold our solitary lunar goddess in unique reverence and affection, just as she holds powerful sway over our inner lives, governing our emotional tides and our unseen yet crucial day-to-day rhythms. Without her steady presence, all life on this planet would feel unmoored, lacking the subtle ebb and flow that helps connect us to our instincts.

The universe beyond our Sun and Moon is a cold, unfeeling abyss; it offers neither comfort nor security. Our Sun is what keeps us active and alive, radiating energy to illuminate and thaw the icy void of space, while the Moon gently guides us towards a sense of cyclical renewal, whether in body, mind, or soul. When a New Moon arrives, these profound forces converge, reminding us that it’s time to realign our deeper selves with conscious intent and step forward as best we can. At this time of year, the multiplicity and diversity of life flourish in the ever-changing realm of Gemini’s mutable air. The impetus becomes to gather information, communicate with laser clarity, and juggle multiple viewpoints without losing our centre. It’s both a challenge and an invocation: to harness that frenetic mental current and transform it into something meaningful before it sweeps us away.

Why is FloorPlay included as part of the cool down cycle of a Nia class?

Being on the floor provides our whole body with a sense of support. All the muscles that usually work together to hold us upright can completely relax. The changed position from vertical to horizontal calms our thinking mind and relaxes our nervous system.

Being on the floor also gives us an opportunity to use our body weight to push away from gravity, to stretch and strengthen in safe and supported ways. To use our arms and wrists, to strengthen our core, to spiral and to strengthen our legs.

The ability to get up and down from the floor is a marker of healthy ageing. The secret is practicing it regularly so that you don’t suddenly wake up one day and realise it’s a skill you have lost.

Join local Nia movement teachers, Alba and Irina, for a heartfelt Nia dance movement journey as we honor those who walked before us, their love and wisdom woven into our bones.
In the spirit of Día de los Mu***os, we’ll move with gratitude,
calling on the memories and strength of our ancestors.
Let each step, sway, and stillness be a dance of connection—a tribute to the sacred thread linking past to present. Come celebrate the timeless dance of life and remembrance.

We will be joined by our local wise woman ceremonialist, Kerani Marie Lomonaco, for a gentle optional ceremony after class honoring our beloved ancestors.

You are invited to bring a photo or symbol of your departed loved ones—whether a cherished person, a beloved pet, or an ancestral lineage that lives on in body or spirit—to place on our altar.

Nia is a conscious dance cardio fitness workout that draws from varied movement forms including dance, martial arts and healing arts.
It is kind to joints and bones, easy to follow and accessible to all
While we generally practice barefoot to activate and strengthen your feet and ankles, some of you may need the support of shoes, so please take care of yourself and honor your body.
Clean indoor shoes only please, to keep our sanctuary space pristine.
