What a wonderful end to a whirlwind of summer. So grateful to be part of this qigong community with so many eclectic beings all gathering with similar spiritual interests.

This August, we focused on sound purgations, gynecology, opening the diaphragms, magistrate calling the emperor, aura viewing, vajrasattva mantra, and of course neigong.

Our next Medical Qigong Intensive will be held in Sedona on Jan 2027. We will continue opening up our spine and channels and focus on the window of sky protocol. Please reach out to [email protected] for further inquiries.

Chinese astronomical tradition understood a lunar eclipse through the relationship of yin and yang: the Moon, associated with yin, appeared temporarily obscured or besieged, signaling a disturbance in the natural alternation of Heaven and Earth. Folk ritual responded through “rescuing the Moon” (救月, jiù yuè)—beating drums, gongs, and other objects to drive away the mythical creature consuming the Moon.

For personal practice, an eclipse can be approached as a time of stillness, inwardness, and transformation rather than fear. Sit quietly, regulate the breath, reduce speech and unnecessary activity, and conserve qi by simplifying food, desires, and emotional agitation. Avoid unnecessary conflict and, if possible, postpone major decisions or undertakings. Most importantly, observe rather than resist: allow yin to deepen and yang to return in its own time. The eclipse offers a natural image of Daoist transformation—what is obscured is not necessarily lost; concealment becomes transformation, and transformation becomes return.

Happy Summer Solstice!

Tomorrow marks the longest day of the year and the peak of Yang energy. In Daoist cosmology, the Summer Solstice is a powerful turning point in the annual cycle. Hidden within the fullness of Yang is the first seed of Yin.

At the height of light, darkness is born. At the fullness of Yang, Yin quietly returns. Though nature is at its height of activity, growth, and abundance, this is also the beginning of the return inward.

To align with the season:
* Conserve and protect Jing
* Cultivate inner stillness amid external activity
* Practice meditation, qigong, or quiet reflection

It is encouraged to spend the day observing:
* The moment before thought arises
* The still point beneath the breath
* The quiet center beneath moving energy

Rather than gathering more Yang, look for the hidden Yin seed that is appearing.

Yang has reached its peak.
Yin is now being born.
The outward journey turns inward.
The return to the Source has already begun.

Some Daoist traditions viewed the solstices and equinoxes as times when communication between the visible and invisible realms becomes easier. Some practices include:
* Incense offerings
* Ritual purification
* Star stepping
* Dreamwork

Other traditional solstice practices include sunrise meditations and harvesting herbs for maximum Yang qi or protection. Mugwort, rosemary, sage, thyme, lavender, and St. John’s Wort are often gathered at this time, when they are believed to carry the strongest Yang Qi of the year.

May your Summer Solstice be filled with vitality, clarity, and harmony.🌻☀️🌳

Fire Horse Year 2026

The lunar new year begins February 17. In Chinese medicine, this marks the true turning toward spring—yang beginning to rise after a long period of storage. What was held inside over winter now starts to move.

This is the year of the Horse. The Horse belongs to Fire and the Heart. On top of that, this is a bing-wu year—double Fire. So Fire is strong. When Fire is strong, things don’t stay still. Movement increases. Expression increases. Events speed up.

Last year, the Snake was about going inward—planning, waiting, shedding old skin, conserving energy. The Horse is different. The Horse moves. It carries what has already been prepared into the world. This is not a year for hesitation. But it is a year for discernment.

In Chinese medicine, Fire governs the Heart and the shen. When Fire is balanced, the Heart is calm, the mind is clear, sleep is steady, and joy is natural. When Fire is excessive, we see agitation—anxiety, insomnia, emotional reactivity, impulsive decisions, conflict.

Because Fire is amplified this year, many people will feel more restless, more emotional, more driven. On a collective level, this can show up as volatility—social tension, political instability, rapid technological change, and more extreme environmental events. From a medical perspective, this is simply Fire rising faster than it can be rooted.

This year favors action, but not reckless action. Starting projects, traveling, teaching, creating, and connecting socially are all supported if the Heart is settled. When action comes from Heart agitation, it leads to burnout and regret. When it comes from clarity, it flows.

So cultivation becomes essential this year. We need to protect the Heart. That means:
• regulating sleep
• reducing overstimulation
• anchoring Fire with breath, gentle movement, and time in nature
• favoring bitter and slightly cooling foods when Fire is high
• keeping the shen housed through stillness practices

From a Daoist view, Fire is also transformative. Fire reveals what is no longer needed. This year gives us a chance to let old patterns burn away—not through force, but through allowing. When we don’t cling, Fire refines instead of consuming.

Traditional new-year practices support this medicine. Cleaning the house clears stagnant qi. Washing bedding clears old turbidity from where we rest. Red decorations strengthen protective yang. Food shared with intention—dumplings, rice cakes, long noodles—anchors health and continuity into the body.

The main teaching for a Fire Horse year is simple:
Keep the Heart cool, the shen settled, and the movement appropriate to the moment.
When Fire is governed, it becomes light. When it is not, it becomes chaos.

Move—but move from clarity.
