Helloooo new friends!! This page has gained over 4k in the last month so I thought a proper introduction was in order!
This page is for spiritually-curious women who want to unlearn the reasons they needed alcohol.
This page is for you if you are still drinking and sober-curious, newly sober feeling lost AF, or even in your first few years of sobriety navigating the newly sober version of you!!
My name is Casey, Iâm 42 and I am NOT AN ALCOHOLIC.
I was a high functioning wine-o lush who used alcohol to push through burnout, dull my sensitivity so the world felt less fu***ng loud, manufacture confidence when I didnât trust myself, avoid confrontation and truth by route of people-pleasing, and tolerate s**t that I didnât actually want to do.
When I was getting sober almost 4 years ago, there wasnât anywhere to go for people like me.
I didnât resonate with AA.
Iâm highly spiritual. (like the weird s**t)
I didnât consider myself an alcoholic and I didnât consider myself all the way sober [then] either.
And just to be clear: Iâm not a licensed therapist or addiction treatment provider. Iâm here to share my own lived experience with healing from alcohol, what Iâve learned along the way, and what helped me find my way back to myself.
But that didnât discredit how hard the first year was.
The first year of sobriety was the hardest year of my life. Insert Dark Night of the Soul at 8 months in.
In my experience, getting sober could not be separated from a spiritual awakening. Like holy crap.
I didnât understand why I didnât feel better. I had a "great" job as a Tailor in the IATSE Film Industry working on some of the biggest Film/TV productions in the country, I was doing everything âright,â I was living in New York City, was independent and living alone in Brooklyn⊠Everything looked great on paper.
I had removed the alcoholâŠ
so WHY didnât I feel better?
Because I spent 20 years outsourcing my personality, confidence, and decisions to alcohol, I woke up sober in a life that didnât actually feel like mine!! Fact is - I wasn't even sure who I was without it.
Removing alcohol didnât magically reconnect me to myself - even though, that's what I thought would happen!
It just made it impossible to ignore how disconnected I already was.
This is exactly when I found Human Design.
It gave me language to understand parts of myself I had spent my entire life trying to override, fix, numb, or make more acceptable.
For the first time, I understood myself so deeply it felt like meeting myself for the first time.
I had no idea what sober me wanted. But I knew what I didnât want. Which was literally everything.........
So I sold everything I owned, bought a camper, left NYC with ZERO plan except to finish writing my book Go to the Desert - Healing from Alcohol: A Spiritual Perspective in the desert. Because a shaman appeared to me in a dream and told me to. Obviously lol.
Human Design has had such a huge impact in my healing journey, I went to school for a year to be able to guide other women through it. If you are interested in Astrology, chances are youâd be open to Human Design as well.
Human Design is a system for understanding how youâre naturally wired to make decisions, use your energy, and move through life as yourself instead of who youâve been conditioned to be.
And this is where my work goes so much deeper than âquitting drinking.â
Actually HEALING FROM ALCOHOL requires unlearning the version of yourself who needed it in the first place.
So together, we are UNSUBSCRIBING.
From the bulls**t conditioning that made us want to reach for that drink in the first place.
The people-pleasing.
The overworking.
The performing.
The swallowing our truth to keep the peace.
The expectations we never consciously agreed to.
The version of ourselves we thought we had to be to be loved, successful, acceptable, or enough.
Because if we want to build a life - and a nervous system - we don't constantly need to escape from, it's all gotta go.
Welcome to UNSUBSCRIBED. Iâm glad youâre here.
Love,
~Casey
