Looks extra smokey out there today.

As wildfire season intensifies across Washington, keeping your indoor air safe is more critical than ever. With major wildfires currently burning across Eastern Washington and continued fire activity affecting the region, smoke levels can fluctuate rapidly.

Here are a few quick tips to help protect your home’s air quality:

Keep windows and doors closed: Seal off your home when air quality is poor to prevent smoke from entering.

Use air purifiers: If you have one, run a portable air cleaner with a HEPA filter in your main living area or bedroom.

Recirculate your air: If you use central air conditioning, set it to "recirculate" mode rather than pulling in outside air.

Avoid indoor pollutants: Skip activities that add to indoor air pollution, such as vacuuming (unless you have a HEPA filter), using candles, or frying foods, while smoke levels are high.

Stay informed: Monitor your local air quality index (AQI) via sites like airnow.gov, and sign up for Skagit Ready to receive real-time updates.

Even if you aren't in the immediate vicinity of a fire, smoke can travel long distances. Please stay safe, follow local fire safety directives, and stay updated on the current conditions in our area.
