Check the kit in your building right now. If the tools inside it are plastic tweezers and adhesive bandages, it is not equipped for the emergency you are actually worried about.

The gap between a standard first aid kit and an EMT-grade kit is not quantity. It is capability. Blood-stopping trauma pads instead of bandages. Paramedic shears that cut through a seatbelt or heavy work clothing. A professional CPR face shield where most kits have nothing at all.

The other difference is the carry. A hard-sided box occupies a hand you need for stairs, crowds, or a radio. A backpack keeps both hands free and puts reflective piping on your back so other responders can find you in the dark.

Our new post covers what is in the 91-piece kit and who should be carrying one:

Discover why you need the First Aid Only 91-Piece First Responder Backpack Kit. Explore EMT-grade supplies, rapid deployment benefits, and hands-free design.

Did you know only 1.9% of women-owned businesses ever break $1M in annual revenue? For women veteran-owned firms, the picture is tighter still: just 3.3% become employer firms at all, and those that do average $863K a year, still short of that $1M mark.

Luminary's Founder & CEO takes the stage at the Military Influencer Conference (MIC) alongside several women veteran entrepreneurs to talk about the real climb toward that number: what it takes, what it costs, and what nobody tells you going in.

"I became an entrepreneur to show veterans they had the transferrable skills to do it. Knowing the additional struggle women veteran founders face in business growth continues to drive me. I hope they can see their future success in what we've built at Luminary." ~ Valerie Lavin, Founder & CEO, Luminary Global

September is National Preparedness Month β€” a reminder that the best time to prepare for an emergency is before you need the gear.

From hurricanes and power outages to medical emergencies, severe weather, and unexpected disruptions, preparedness starts with a plan β€” and the right equipment to support it.

At Luminary Global, we help individuals, families, businesses, first responders, and agencies build readiness with:
First Aid & trauma kits
Emergency survival kits
Food & water preparedness supplies
Lighting, communications & survival gear
Hygiene & sanitation supplies
Medical and tactical equipment

This month, take a few minutes to check your supplies, replace expired items, update your emergency plan, and make sure the people who depend on you are prepared too.

Prepared today. Protected tomorrow.

Most people build a 72-hour kit by grabbing whatever looks useful at the store. That is the mistake.

Mission Ready Check: First Aid Only 72-Hour Survival Kit: Field Manual & SOP

- Do you know whether your current kit covers medical care, hydration, and caloric intake as a single integrated system rather than a loose collection of items?
- Is every item in your kit within its expiration date and in functional condition right now?
- Can you explain, without looking anything up, what actions you would take in the first 30 minutes of an emergency using only what is in your kit?
- Do you have a written or memorized plan for when to use your kit versus when to wait for rescue or resupply?

If you hesitated on any of those, here is what the field manual covers:
A 72-hour survival kit is a self-contained, single-person emergency system that provides immediate medical care, environmental protection, hydration, and caloric intake to bridge the critical gap between an initiating emergency event and rescue or resupply.

The stairwell is thirty floors up and the apparatus stays at street level.

Operator Load-Out: EVAC Systems EP201 Fire Hose Backpack: Field Manual & SOP

What this goes in:
- High-rise fire response pack
- Wildland and urban interface rapid deployment kit
- Industrial and confined space incident response kit

What to look for:
- Load configuration matters more than pack capacity: verify the EP201 supports your pre-configured hose load without requiring re-packing under pressure
- A common mistake is selecting a hose pack based on volume alone without confirming the harness system is rated for the combined weight of hose, appliances, and water in the line
- Inspect hardware points and lash attachment compatibility with your department's existing appliance inventory before fielding

Field note: The EVAC Systems EP201 is a tactical transport system used by firefighters to carry pre-configured hose loads and appliances into high-rise, wildland, industrial, and rapid intervention environments where direct apparatus access is unavailable.

Difficulty: Tier 3: Field Competency Required

Most pool facilities have a first aid kit on the wall. Very few have confirmed it is stocked, staged, and actually suited for aquatic emergencies.

Mission Ready Check: Swimming Pool & Lifeguard First Aid Kit: Field Manual & SOP

- Does your pool's first aid kit contain supplies specifically suited for aquatic injuries, not just general cuts and scrapes?
- Can every staff member on duty locate and access the first aid kit within 30 seconds without assistance?
- Has your team verified the kit's contents and expiration dates within the last 90 days?
- Does your facility have a documented SOP for managing injuries at the point of injury before EMS arrives?

If you hesitated on any of those, here is what the field manual covers:
A swimming pool and lifeguard first aid kit is a 141-piece, field-ready station designed for aquatic environment emergency response, enabling lifeguards and pool staff to manage minor-to-moderate injuries at the point of injury pending EMS arrival.

Difficulty: Tier 2: Basic Preparedness Skills

Your primary kit is on the ground, your bag is across the room, and you need a tourniquet applicator right now.

Operator Load-Out: Field Guide: Rothco EMS Ankle Holster

What this goes in:
- Tactical medic duty kit
- Vehicle emergency kit
- Civilian EDC trauma setup

What to look for:
- Elastic retention should hold instruments securely without compression marks or loosening during extended wear
- A common mistake is buying ankle carry systems sized for fi****ms rather than medical instruments, which creates poor pocket fit and instrument shifting
- Check ankle circumference compatibility before purchase, as a poor fit reduces both retention and access speed under stress

Field note: The Rothco EMS Ankle Holster is a three-pocket elastic ankle carry system used by paramedics, tactical medics, law enforcement, and prepared civilians to maintain discreet, field-ready access to backup medical instruments when primary gear is unavailable.

Difficulty: Tier 1: No Training Required

The same chest rig should not look the same on a breach as it does on a medical call.

That is the entire argument for a modular panel. On an urban breach, the center pockets carry four 5.56 magazines and the left flank stages flashbangs for the non-firing hand. Reconfigure that same rig for mass casualty triage and the primary slots hold staged windlass tourniquets ready for one-handed deployment, with a rip-away IFAK on the outer webbing and shears lanyarded to the shoulder straps.

Same panel. Different mission. Thirty minutes of deliberate setup between them.

Five full configurations for the Rothco Tactical Assault Panel, including the low-light recon layout and the vehicle-borne QRF setup that mounts directly to armor:

Discover 5 tactical configurations for the Rothco Tactical Assault Panel (TAP). Explore rapid-deployment loadouts for high-threat scenarios and urban breaches.

You rucked three miles before you noticed your shoulder straps had shifted, and by mile five, the load was riding wrong enough to slow you down.

Operator Load-Out: Field Guide: ALICE Pack Frame Shoulder Straps

What this goes in:
- 72-hour go bag built on an LC-1 ALICE frame
- Extended patrol or overland carry kit
- Search and rescue pack system requiring load distribution over multi-hour carries

What to look for:
- Padding density matters more than padding thickness, thin foam compresses fast under a loaded frame and stops doing its job by hour two
- A common mistake is buying straps without confirming LC-1 frame compatibility, not all ALICE-style straps fit all frame variants
- Adjustability range should cover your full torso length, straps set wrong for your frame height move the load off your hips and onto your shoulders

Field note: The Rothco ALICE Pack Frame Shoulder Straps are padded, fully adjustable replacement straps designed for the LC-1 ALICE pack system, used by military personnel, hikers, hunters, and tactical operators to distribute heavy loads and reduce shoulder fatigue over extended carries.

Difficulty: Tier 1: No Training Required

The power goes out at 11 PM. You reach for your phone flashlight, but it is at 12 percent. The kids are asking questions. You do not know if the outage is local or regional.

Mission Ready Check: Field Manual: Deluxe Power Outage Emergency Kit SOP

- Do you have a dedicated power outage kit that is separate from your general emergency supplies and stored where every household member can find it in the dark?
- Do you know whether your current emergency lighting provides enough output to navigate your home safely for 72 hours without recharging?
- Can you receive official emergency broadcast updates right now without relying on your phone or home wifi?
- Have you checked your kit's batteries and backup power sources within the last six months?

If you hesitated on any of those, here is what the field manual covers:
The Luminary Global Deluxe Power Outage Emergency Kit is a field-ready lighting and information system that provides tiered illumination and emergency broadcast reception for households, offices, and vehicles during the critical 0 to 72-hour window following a power disruption.

Difficulty: Tier 1: No Training Required
