Mental Health Awareness Month is a reminder that mental health matters just as much as physical health.

Behind many smiles are people quietly carrying anxiety, depression, trauma, burnout, grief, ADHD, postpartum struggles, relationship stress, or the exhaustion of simply trying to keep up with life. So many people are fighting battles no one else can see.

Seeking help is not weakness. Taking medication is not failure. Going to therapy is not something to be ashamed of. Resting does not make you lazy. Setting boundaries does not make you selfish.

Healing is not always linear, and progress does not always look dramatic. Sometimes progress looks like getting out of bed, making the appointment, asking for support, or simply making it through another difficult day.

This month, we encourage compassion for yourself and for others. You never truly know what someone may be carrying beneath the surface.

You are not alone, and support is available.

Today, on Mother’s Day, we want to hold space for the mothers whose hearts feel heavy.

🌸For the mothers grieving the loss of their own mothers.
🪻For the mothers grieving the loss of a child.
🌼For the women longing to become mothers while quietly carrying the pain of infertility.
🌷For the new mothers battling postpartum depression while trying to smile through exhaustion.
💐For the mothers overwhelmed by the invisible mental load of caregiving and constantly questioning if they are “enough.”
🌺For the mothers struggling with addiction, desperately wanting to be the parent they know they can be.
🌻For the mothers carrying trauma, anxiety, depression, burnout, guilt, or loneliness behind closed doors.

Motherhood is not measured by perfection.
It is not measured by spotless homes, endless patience, or never struggling.

Sometimes motherhood looks like surviving the day.
Sometimes it looks like asking for help.
Sometimes it looks like getting out of bed when your mind is fighting you every step of the way.
Sometimes it looks like grieving, healing, trying again, or simply continuing on when life feels impossibly heavy.

At Front Porch Psychiatry, we want every mother to know this:
