Potassium & Lower Stroke Risk

A recent study suggests that potassium may help lower stroke risk in women, especially those who do not have high blood pressure. Researchers followed 90,000 women for 11 years and found that those who consumed at least 3200 mg of potassium a day from food (not supplements) had a 12% lower risk of stroke than those who ate less than 1900 mg a day. Among women who did not have high blood pressure, those who ate the most potassium had a 21% lower risk. Foods such as dark leafy greens, beans, potatoes, squash, bananas, yogurt, seafood, avocados and mushrooms are good sources of potassium.

Check Your Prescription Drug Supply.
You will need enough doses of each of your prescription drugs to last for your entire trip, plus several extra doses in case you are delayed while traveling. Talk with your doctor if your insurance provider will not issue extra doses to you. Your doctor should be able to work with your insurance company and pharmacy to get you the extra medications you need. If you take any over-the-counter medications, be sure you have enough of them on hand, too. Have questions? Call us and we will help!
