Planting Seeds for the Future:
The Dr. Larry Wellman Legacy Fundraiser
by ALLIANCE HEALTH EDUCATION INITIATIVE
AHEI is honored to dedicate this fundraiser to the loving memory of Dr. Lawrence (Larry) Wellman. Spouse of Grace, AHEI committee member, and longtime supporter.
Dr. Wellman devoted his life to the exceptional care of children and the education of future physicians. He received accolades for his expertise, calming comfort, and the hope he gave to families during challenging times.
He was honored with the Department of Pediatrics Outstanding Mentor Award for his dedication to the next generation of pediatricians.
This legacy fundraiser celebrates his remarkable life and will continue the work he cared so deeply about.
Proceeds of this fundraiser will benefit pediatric and medical student health projects.

💙 Physician Family Day 💙
Today, we celebrate not only our physicians — but the families who walk beside them.
Behind every physician is often a family that understands the missed dinners, interrupted celebrations, changed plans, late nights, and moments when a community's needs must come first.
Physician families give, too. They encourage. They understand. They wait. And through it all, they help make it possible for physicians to care for the communities we call home.
Today is a day to simply be together—to laugh, share a meal, make memories, and enjoy the company of others who understand this unique life.
To our physicians and their families: thank you for all you give to your communities—and to one another. 💙

Working alongside other community organizations, volunteers could provide waterproof emergency go bags filled with first-aid supplies and essential personal care items—offering comfort, dignity, and hope when people need it most.

In 2020, the Kalamazoo Area Medical Alliance received an AHEI grant for its "Victim Services Crisis Card" project.

K**A has printed and distributed over 20,000 cards of hope
for over 20 years.

💡A great idea can begin anywhere...

Sometimes the greatest needs aren't found in the classroom—they're found in the people preparing it.

Every year, countless teachers quietly purchase classroom decorations, learning materials, tissues, art supplies, and countless other essentials from their own pockets.
They do it because they want every child to walk into a classroom that feels welcoming, encouraging, and ready to learn.

But what if an entire community noticed?
What if a nonprofit organization, civic club, church, business, or neighborhood "adopted" a teacher... or an entire school?
Imagine educators arriving for the new school year to discover a gymnasium filled with donated classroom supplies, cheerful decorations, and caring volunteers ready to help them prepare for the year ahead.

Before students ever take their seats, they would walk into classrooms filled with color, creativity, encouragement, and hope.
Because when we invest in teachers, we invest in every child they inspire.

Sometimes the people who inspire children need someone to inspire them.

💭Dreaming of what could be...

A backpack can carry more than books. It can carry hope.🙏

Every student deserves the opportunity to begin the school year prepared to learn. Through partnerships with schools and community volunteers, colorful backpacks filled with age-appropriate supplies could be made available for students whose families may need a helping hand. By removing one barrier before the first school bell rings, we can help children begin the year with confidence, excitement, and the tools they need to succeed.
