I have over 20 years of experience and have worked with a wide range of patients and clients. I became a licensed Physical Therapist in 1998 after attending Duke University for an M.S.P.T. and received my Doctorate in Physical Therapy after completing online studies with the Institute of Health Professions at Massachusetts General Hospital in 2014.

My first yoga teacher training was with Ashev

ille Yoga Center which I completed in 2005. I was certified in prenatal teacher training in San Francisco, CA. And I recently earned a certification in Medical Therapeutic Yoga, which is the use of yoga in/as healthcare and self-care, at Living Well Institute (formerly Professional Yoga Therapy Institute®). I started blogging in 2010 as The Pragmatic Yogi, which was about a Physical Therapist's views on how Yoga affects our everyday lives and featured 'Asana Analysis', regular postings on yoga postures and their relevance for physical therapy patients. Some of these blog posts have been updated and reposted on the Elements PT Yoga website.

Freedom, energy, transformation; sounds like exactly what we need in the year of the Fire Horse! 🔥 🐎 🙏

Happy Lunar New Year to all Horses during the Fire year, but what does that mean?

As Lunar New Year follows the Chinese Zodiac and the five elements, 2026 lands on the year of the horse and the element of fire -- the last time being in 1966!

The year of the Fire Horse symbolizes freedom, passionate energy and transformative yet challenging opportunities that can break old patterns and inspire new growth.

So true. 🙏

Good news for people like me! 🗞️ I sometimes feel bad that I don’t always stick to a super regular routine of exercise. But now science says my style of doing a little bit of lots of things is possibly better in the long run than doing one thing intensively. 🤓 Variety really is the spice of life! 🌶️ This past week I have taken a Pilates class, done bits yoga 🧘‍♂️ at home, jogged 🏃🏻‍♀️ on the treadmill once, did some strength training with weights 🏋️‍♀️ and got out for a day of cross country skiing! ⛄️

What kind of variety do you have in your exercise routine? What is your favorite activity and what is one that you might need an extra nudge for?

Should you go all in on walking—or switch up your workouts during the week? A new study compares the longevity benefits of various types of popular exercises.

Snowy Yoga Day - With a state of emergency declared in the city of Pittsburgh due to ongoing cold and snow, we will not be having our regular in-person yoga class at To Life! tomorrow.

The good news is I will be offering the class remotely! So you can join us even if you are out of town or just don't want to leave your house this week. This is an all-levels class that that uses a chair for some seated and standing poses but also has options for getting down on your mat if you prefer. Here's the link to sign up: https://momence.com/l/lkhjv9gy

Once you go there, you can click the "Book for free now and pay later" box. If you are a To Life! client please do that! Others can go ahead "book now" if you want to use a SummerSeat membership or pay a drop-in online. You can also use the pay later option if you would like to send a check. You will receive a Zoom link via email upon completing registration.

Stay safe and warm. 🙏

This is worth sharing again as I attempt to start 2026 with some sense of grounded-ness. Obstacles: 1) I don't have a planner yet, the one I ordered is for 25/26 and I need one for all of 2026!
2) Our youngest only lasted for 30 minutes at his first day back to school before he suddenly got sick 🤮

Supports: 1) I am doing Jenni Rawlings Yoga's 30 day yoga challenge so at least I got 10 minutes of movement in before plan for the day went sideways. 2) gratitude for my own health today, especially because I wasn't feeling great myself yesterday. 🙏

Here's to working on physical, mental and emotional roots this week and all year! 🎊

❄️✨ Happy Winter Solstice! ✨❄️

From this moment forward, the days will begin to get longer again, bringing more sunlight and brighter days ahead.

I had the good fortune to mark the occasion by going for night hike with friends and participating in a beautiful candlelight spiral walk with Women's Adventure Club of Western PA .

Here’s to new beginnings and the magic of the winter season. 🌙🌟

Legendary! Happy 100th to Dick Van Dyck. What a great reminder of the benefits of a good attitude and flexible hips! 🥳

How long can you balance on one leg? If you’re under 50, it’s hopefully at least 30 seconds and if you’re older, go for at least 15 seconds of single leg balancing! It’s even better if you can multitask or turn your head!

Everyone says it’s so important. Is it true?
