It’s time for fall, y’all! We are beginning to see the leaves change colors, and our beloved daylight is diminishing faster with each day. Fortunately for us, pumpkin spice lattes and cozy sweaters will help keep us warm as cooler days approach.
Part 7 of our 8-part series celebrating Kocolene’s eight company philosophies is here! This month, we are celebrating “Communication”. In the business world today, we have many forms of communication: Emails, phone calls, text messages, instant messages, word of mouth, and maybe even a bulletin board in the break room. Learning the best ways to effectively utilize these different forms of communication will help any organization be successful. Here are a couple of examples:
Suzie’s daughter is doing a fundraiser, so she brings the order forms to the office to get her co-workers to contribute. What’s the more effective form of communication here? A company-wide email marked “Urgent: Candles for Sale!” or an order form hung up on the break room bulletin board?
Here’s another: Vanessa is in charge of IT and needs to perform some after-hours server maintenance that will affect users’ access to crucial business applications. Should she hang up a note on the break room bulletin board, or would an email fit this scenario a little bit better?
Communication has been described as “…the chain of understanding that integrates an organization from top to bottom, bottom to top, and from side to side.” With that “chain of understanding” throughout an integrated organization, corporate excellence is well within grasp. For this next month, please join us in practicing effective communication, and make sure the barista knows that you want your latte hot and not iced! ☕️
