The Oklahoma summer heat is officially here! Keeping kids hydrated is crucial, especially when they are running around outside.
Save this post to remember the hydration guidelines! π
A good rule of thumb for younger children: they should drink about as many 8-ounce cups of water as their age, up to age 8 (so a 5-year-old needs about five 8-oz cups per day). Older kids and teens need 8-11 cups a day, and even more on active or very hot days.
Watch for early signs of dehydration:
fatigue, irritability, flushed skin, or complaining of a headache.
These can easily be mistaken for behavioral issues when the real culprit is simply not enough water! Encourage frequent water breaks every 30-60 minutes during active outdoor play.
Skip the sugary sports drinks and stick to water β you can always infuse it with fruit for a fun flavor twist! ππ
