The Oklahoma summer heat is officially here! Keeping kids hydrated is crucial, especially when they are running around outside.

Save this post to remember the hydration guidelines! πŸ“Œ

A good rule of thumb for younger children: they should drink about as many 8-ounce cups of water as their age, up to age 8 (so a 5-year-old needs about five 8-oz cups per day). Older kids and teens need 8-11 cups a day, and even more on active or very hot days.

Watch for early signs of dehydration:
fatigue, irritability, flushed skin, or complaining of a headache.

These can easily be mistaken for behavioral issues when the real culprit is simply not enough water! Encourage frequent water breaks every 30-60 minutes during active outdoor play.

Skip the sugary sports drinks and stick to water β€” you can always infuse it with fruit for a fun flavor twist! πŸ‰πŸ‹

Spending time in nature is so restorative for children, but it does mean we need to be mindful of ticks β€” especially here in Oklahoma.

Save this checklist before your next outdoor adventure! πŸ“Œ

Prevention is key!
When hiking or playing in tall grass, dress your kids in light-colored clothing (makes ticks easier to spot) and tuck pants into socks.
Treat clothing with a safe repellent, and always do a thorough "tick check" when you come inside β€” pay special attention to the scalp, behind the ears, behind the knees, and under the arms.

Encouraging your child to shower within two hours of coming indoors can also help wash away any unattached ticks before they have a chance to bite.

If you do find an attached tick, remove it carefully with fine-tipped tweezers, pulling straight up with steady, even pressure. Do not twist or jerk β€” this can cause the mouthparts to break off and remain in the skin.

Enjoy the great outdoors safely all summer long! 🌿

While I love diving deep into functional medicine, I am also here for your everyday pediatric needs!

I offer both sick and well visits for children from birth to 21 years old. Wellness visits are so important for monitoring growth, development, and catching potential problems early β€” before they become bigger concerns. And when those inevitable illnesses strike β€” ear infections, strep throat, colds, or tummy bugs β€” I provide thorough evaluation and diagnostic testing right here in the clinic.

What makes my practice different?
Every appointment is unhurried. There is no timer running, no pressure to wrap up before you've had a chance to ask all of your questions. You will leave feeling heard and confident in the plan for your child.

Appointments are $100 per visit. FSA and HSA accounts are accepted.

Kids and parenting questions don't always happen during normal business hours.

Since the start of my practice, I've been so happy to answer text messages after hours. But as my practice has grown, I've realized that to continue offering this kind of support in a sustainable way, I need to add a little bit more structure.

That’s why I am so incredibly excited to announce that beginning June 15th, I’ll be launching an After-Hours Texting Membership for established families!

This membership will give you direct access to me for brief, after-hours guidance for things like fevers, rashes, tummy bugs, minor injuries, and medication questions.

Here are the details:

✨ Availability:
After-hours access until 10:00 PM (texts after 10 PM will be answered the next day). Weekends are included, with more limited availability on holidays.

✨ Response Time:
Typically between 1 to 2 hours.

✨ Pricing:
$39.99/month for 1-2 kids, or $49.99/month for 3+ kids.

My goal is to provide you with added support and peace of mind after hours, offering guidance and reassurance that may help your family avoid unnecessary urgent care and ER visits.
Enrollment is open now! Click the link below or in my bio to sign up and secure your family's spot.

Thank you for trusting me with your children's care!

I call it the sunshine vitamin for a reason!
Vitamin D is absolutely crucial for growing children, and it does so much more than most people realize.

Beyond supporting strong bones, Vitamin D plays a massive role in immune system regulation, mood stability, sleep quality, and even brain development. Research increasingly links low Vitamin D levels in children to increased rates of frequent illness, fatigue, mood challenges, and difficulty concentrating.

While our bodies produce Vitamin D when exposed to sunlight, many children still run low β€” especially after the winter months or if they spend most of their time indoors. Safe, moderate sun exposure before the peak heat of the day is a great natural source, but food sources like fatty fish and egg yolks can also help.

In my practice, I often check Vitamin D levels as part of our functional lab workups, especially for kids dealing with fatigue, frequent illnesses, or mood challenges. Knowing their exact levels helps us supplement accurately and safely β€” rather than just guessing.

Get outside and soak up some sunshine today! β˜€οΈ

I often say that health begins in the gut.
It's incredible how closely the gut microbiome is linked to a child's overall well-being β€” including their mood, sleep, immune function, and behavior.

Did you know that approximately 70-80% of the immune system resides in the gut? And that the gut produces roughly 90% of the body's serotonin β€” the neurotransmitter most closely associated with mood and emotional regulation?

When the gut is out of balance, it shows up in ways that can look like behavioral problems, anxiety, frequent illness, or chronic digestive complaints.

If your child is struggling with chronic constipation, abdominal pain, anxiety, or behavioral challenges, looking at their gut health can provide vital clues.

In my practice, I utilize functional lab testing β€” like gut microbiome testing and food sensitivity panels β€” to identify root cause imbalances rather than just treating the symptoms.

Every child is unique, and there is no one-size-fits-all solution. If you're looking for a deeper understanding of your child's health, let's talk about how functional medicine can help. Click the link in my bio to schedule a consultation.

With the weather warming up and kids spending more time playing outside, having healthy, hydrating snacks on hand is a must!

Save these ideas for your next grocery run! πŸ“Œ

I love focusing on whole foods that provide energy and essential nutrients without the sugar crash. Fresh, water-rich fruits like watermelon and cucumbers are fantastic for hydration β€” watermelon is actually 92% water!

Pairing a carbohydrate with a protein β€” like apple slices with nut butter or veggies with hummus β€” helps keep blood sugar stable and little tummies full longer. This is especially important for active kids who are burning energy outside all day.

And for those hot afternoons? Try making homemade popsicles using coconut water and blended berries. It's a fun, refreshing treat packed with natural electrolytes! πŸ‰

Have you ever felt rushed through a pediatric appointment?

The traditional healthcare model often encourages hurried visits and discourages meaningful dialogue. I wanted to offer an alternative for Oklahoma families.

My practice operates on a direct pay model. This means I am not in-network with insurance, which allows us to bypass the complexities and focus entirely on your child. You get unhurried appointments, direct communication with me, and transparent pricing.

While I don’t bill insurance directly for visits, you can still use your insurance for laboratory work, prescriptions, and x-rays. Many families also use their FSA or HSA accounts, or submit for out-of-network reimbursement.
