I’ve been asked so many times, “What do you like to do when you’re not working?”
And, let’s face it… I’m ALWAYS working. 😂
If I’m not literally hands-on with clients, I’m planning events, blending herbal teas, making all-natural products, dreaming up the next service to unveil, doing the dreaded bookkeeping, or following up with calls and messages to check on clients after their sessions.
But with so many new faces following Lotus lately, it got me thinking that maybe it was time to reintroduce myself—and share a little about the person behind Lotus Wellness Studio.
Hi, I’m Marnee. 🤍
When I’m not working, I love the simple things.
I love nature and the warmer months. I pretty much go dormant once the cold hits. 😂 I take full advantage of everything the land gives us, especially the beautiful forests surrounding Lotus.
Come spring, I turn into a full-blown kitchen witch.
Throughout spring, summer and fall, you’ll find me wandering the woods, foraging and gathering what I need to make tinctures, all-natural salves, cold and flu remedies, herbal preparations and whatever else I decide to concoct.
My personal apothecary is overflowing—and looking at it makes me ridiculously happy.
Having nature’s medicine at my fingertips, not only for myself but for my family and friends, feels priceless to me. Working with plants, creating things with my hands and learning from the land brings me joy. It’s therapy for my busy mind and my perpetually restless hands.
And then there’s water.
I LOVE the water.
The body of water doesn’t really matter—Lake Michigan, a little pond, a river, creek or waterfall. They all sing to me in their own way. Water fills my cup, quiets my mind and brings me peace.
And did you know that flowing water can carry away your worries?
It can take the things that feel heavy, the things that no longer serve you, and carry them away. You just have to sit beside it for a while and tell it what’s weighing on you.
Trust me. It works. 🤍
I also love reading, cooking, traveling, spontaneous last-minute adventures, my animals—and yes, this includes my husband and boys because they’re all a little feral. 😂 And of course, I fully appreciate a good weekend Netflix binge.
But outside of all those things, there’s another part of me that isn’t really “work” at all.
I genuinely love being a healer.
After almost 20 years as a licensed, medically certified massage therapist, I think most people who know me already know that.
I make it a daily mission to change at least one person’s day for the better.
Sometimes that means alleviating pain, releasing tension or helping someone regain range of motion.
Sometimes it means simply listening without judgment.
Sometimes it’s offering advice, encouragement or sharing pieces of my own experiences because I’ve walked through something similar.
Massage therapists wear a lot of hats for the people who trust us with their care. I try to be the best at whatever hat someone needs me to wear that day.
I began my career in outpatient rehabilitation and spent 13 years there. It was an incredible place to learn, grow and become the therapist I am today. I will forever be grateful for those years because they built my foundation.
But it wasn’t until I stepped out on my own and created Lotus that I truly found my calling within this career.
“Just like the Lotus, we too can bloom from the darkness.”
And that has become so much more than a saying to me.
Lotus gave me the opportunity to take everything I had learned over the years and finally do things the way I felt they needed to be done—to look at wellness differently, listen to my intuition, create, experiment, learn and build something that genuinely feels like an extension of who I am.
And frankly?
It has been AMAZING.
Together, we have built such a beautiful Lotus community.
Not too fast. Not too slow. Just right.
We don’t need thousands upon thousands of social media followers to feel validated. What matters to me is the tight-knit community we have created—the people who trust us, support us, recommend us, laugh with us, grow with us and allow us to be a small part of their lives.
Our community needs Lotus, but the truth is, Lotus needs our community just as much.
And that is exactly what I hope we continue building.
So, long story short…
When I actually have spare time, you’ll probably find me barefoot in the woods, gathering plants, standing beside the water, creating something in my kitchen, loving on an animals, planning an adventure—or curled up on the couch watching Netflix. 😂
The simple things are what bring me peace.
They keep my feet on the earth, my hands busy, my heart full and my mind grounded.
So, to all of you who have been here for years, thank you for growing with me.
And to all the new faces…
Hi. I’m Marnee. 🤍
It’s so nice to meet you.
I hope, in time, I get to know a little bit about you too.
