Celebrating a Wonderful HCMA Annual Meeting!

What a fantastic evening celebrating the Hartford County physician community at the Hartford County Medical Association's 2026 Annual Meeting!

We were honored to welcome an outstanding lineup of speakers, including Dr. Robert McLean, the new President of the Connecticut State Medical Society; Dr. Manisha Juthani, Commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Public Health; and Dr. Sahar Hashmi, who shared valuable insights on the evolving role of artificial intelligence in healthcare. Special thanks to Luke Bronin, Democratic Candidate for the 1st Congressional District for joining us too!

The evening also provided an opportunity to recognize excellence in medicine, celebrate our talented Research Award recipients, and honor two exceptional physicians:

A great evening celebrating physician leadership at tonight’s Connecticut State Medical Society Annual Meeting!
The Hartford County Medical Association was well represented as Dr. Hakim-Zargar was celebrated for her service as outgoing CSMS President and we celebrated Dr. Robert McLean as he was sworn in as the new President.
We were also proud to see HCMA members stepping into important leadership roles, with Dr. Frank Santoro again elected to the CSMS Board, Dr. Khuram Ghumman elected chair of the Council, and Dr. Laureen Rubino named President-Elect.
The evening brought together physician leaders from across Connecticut and beyond, including Dr. Rebecca Andrews, immediate past Chair of the American College of Physicians Board of Regents, and keynote speaker Dr. Sandra Fryhofer, incoming President of the American Medical Association.
Connecticut Comptroller Sean Scanlon was also recognized with the CSMS Advocacy Award for his efforts to eliminate AI-based downcoding in the state employee health plan—an important advocacy issue for physicians and their patients.
Congratulations to all of tonight’s honorees and leaders, and thank you for your continued commitment to Connecticut’s physician community and the patients we serve!

Calling all young physicians and future physicians!

The Hartford County Medical Association is now accepting submissions for the 10th Annual HCMA Young Physician Research Award, recognizing outstanding clinical and basic science research by medical students, residents, fellows, and early career physicians in Hartford County.

🏆 First Place: $1,000
🏆 Second Place: $800
🏆 Third Place: $400
