Today is World Menopause Day.
Here is the part that does not get said enough: the symptoms that bother women most are often the ones they never mention at an appointment.
Hot flashes get talked about. Vaginal dryness, burning, pain with intimacy, and the sudden urgency to find a bathroom usually do not. There is a name for that cluster - genitourinary syndrome of menopause - and it is common after menopause. Other symptoms related to menopause can also include fatigue, brain fog, disrupted sleep and weight gain - all of which are considered "normal", but these are also very treatable!
It is not something you have to live with, and it is not too small to bring up. Treatments exist, they work, and the conversation takes about five minutes.
If something has changed and you have been wondering whether it is "just menopause," let's talk about it.
