As I board my flight en route to San Diego to present my poster on dry eye disease and functional medicine, I wanted to share a very important travel tip ✈️👁️

If you wear contact lenses on airplanes… think twice.

Airplane cabins are notoriously dry, with humidity levels that can drop dramatically, creating the perfect environment for tear evaporation, irritation, blurred vision, and uncomfortable contact lens wear.

My go-to eye-friendly air travel tips:

✈️ Wear your glasses instead of contact lenses when possible
💧 Pack preservative-free lubricating eye drops
🚰 Hydrate before and during your flight
😴 Avoid sleeping in your contact lenses
📱 Reduce prolonged screen time mid-flight (yes, scrolling counts)
🫁 Aim airflow vents away from your face and eyes
🕶️ If your eyes are especially sensitive, moisture chamber glasses can help

Dry eye doesn’t take a vacation—and neither should good prevention.

See you in San Diego. Poster presentation coming soon!👏

May is both Healthy Vision Month and National Women’s Health Month and I do not see that as coincidence.
I see it as a reminder that eye health belongs in the women’s health conversation.
Women experience unique physiologic transitions that can directly influence ocular comfort, vision, and disease risk from hormonal shifts and dry eye to migraine, autoimmune conditions, cardiovascular health, sleep, and metabolic changes.
Yet too often, we separate the eyes from the rest of the body.
This month, let’s connect the dots.
Because healthy vision is women’s health.

Top 5 Mistakes Patients Make with Supplements
(From a nutrition specialist who has worked with both in practice and with industry.)

Supplements can be incredibly helpful when used correctly—but there are a few mistakes I see patients make over and over again.

1. No one is doing the math
Always look at the actual ingredient panel, not just the front of the bottle. Many people take multiple supplements that contain overlapping nutrients (for example B vitamins, magnesium, or zinc) without realizing the total daily dose. Adding up the milligrams or micrograms across products helps avoid unnecessary excess and ensures you are taking an evidence-based amount.

2. Forgetting to count powders and drink mixes
Powders, greens blends, electrolyte mixes, and protein drinks often contain added and . Patients frequently overlook these when calculating their daily intake. Those hidden nutrients can significantly contribute to your total daily dose.

3. Timing matters more than people think
Certain nutrients can influence energy, metabolism, or sleep physiology. For example, B-vitamins or stimulating adaptogens may be better tolerated earlier in the day, while nutrients that support relaxation or sleep may be better taken in the evening. Thoughtful timing can improve tolerance and effectiveness.

4. With food or without food matters
Some vitamins are water-soluble and absorbed well on an empty stomach, while others are fat-soluble and require dietary fat for optimal absorption. Taking nutrients like vitamin D, vitamin E, carotenoids, or omega-3s with meals can significantly improve . Understanding this small detail can make supplements work much better.

5. Not telling your healthcare professional
One of the most common safety issues I see is incomplete supplement disclosure. can interact with medications, affect laboratory values, or overlap with prescribed therapies. Always share your full supplement list so your healthcare team can guide safe and coordinated care.

Supplements can be powerful tools—but only when used thoughtfully and transparently.

For much of medical history, the eye was treated as a “sex-neutral” organ. Women’s hormonal transitions were rarely studied, and vision changes during midlife were often dismissed as normal aging rather than part of a larger systemic shift.

Only in recent decades have researchers identified estrogen, progesterone, and androgen receptors throughout ocular tissues—including the tear film, meibomian glands, retina, and optic nerve. As women live longer, understanding how hormonal health intersects with eye health is essential—not optional.

This year, I’ll be lecturing and guesting on podcasts to help close this knowledge gap and bring greater awareness to the role hormones play in women’s vision and overall wellbeing. Awareness is the first step toward prevention, comfort, and long-term eye health.

New year, new goals? Not exactly.
For me, the mission has never changed: one patient, one doctor at a time.
The ex*****on may evolve, but the purpose remains unwavering.

As I reflect on this past year—and simultaneously manifest what’s ahead—there’s one truth I want my audience to understand:

Everything I do is rooted in integrity, purpose, and the belief that pain can be a powerful teacher.
My journey has been shaped by the privilege of understanding struggle, and by choosing to transform it into service. I stand with the people who align with that vision and value, knowing we each have a role to play—sometimes we discover it early, sometimes later, but it always unfolds when it’s meant to.

This year was foundational—a rebuilding, a recalibration, and a reconnection to the heart of Integrative Vision. And it has prepared me for what comes next.

To everyone who has supported, collaborated, encouraged, or challenged me: thank you.
I’m excited for the new collaborators and partnerships that will join me in the next book—not just the next chapter.

In health,
