One of my favorite things about motherhood?
Including your kids in what interests you!!!
Not in a forceful “you’re going to like what I like” kind of way, but in simply living your life and bringing them along to what brings you joy.
Take, for instance, this weekend.
I have always LOVED running. But in a season of postpartum, breastfeeding, packing, new build meetings, and moving…let’s just say I haven’t been as consistent with a weekly running schedule as I’d like to be.
But I still signed up for the 5K, ran an 8 min/mile average, and did it all with my kids watching.
It’s easy to make excuses. It is.
It’s easy to say, “Well, I’m just not going to do it because I can’t do it at my absolute best.”
But we all have to start somewhere.
And if we’re always waiting for the perfect timing, or looking for every 5K to be a new PR, we’ll find ourselves just…not doing it.
So here’s your reminder to let go of perfection and show your kids the things you love. Bring them along with you.
Just as a patient and I discussed during her appointment this morning, over time, you start seeing yourself in them — and it is the neatest feeling.
Hearing my kids ask me to go on a run with them brings me so much joy, even if we just make it down one town block.
Because you’re instilling habits of a love for movement — and teaching them that movement can bring joy, not punishment, to their bodies.
Anywho, I hope you had a wonderful Labor Day weekend. 🤍
This reminder of enjoying activity for the sake of joy, while letting go of the feeling that you have to look perfect or hit a PR, deserved a permanent spot on my feed! ☺️
