I am really terrible lately about actually updating publicly what's going on in my world. I truly try to exist in the moment, I'll even document, and then sit on all of it🫣 So what's new with me?
1. I got into grad school! I'll soon be attending as a Maternal Child Health Policy & Leadership focused MPH student!!
2. My Babies Born Healthy squad is on the way to becoming all CBS certified and attended the Breastfeeding Beyond Barriers conference hosted by my OTHER self .
3. Spent time on the Hill with making connections with amazing people like and advocating for the needs of families to our electorate.
4. Got nominated as a 40 Under 40! Stay tuned on that one... last year's cohort had some AMAZING candidates including former schoolmates and sorors so I hope to be in that elite number.
5. I'm still momming! Still helping babies. Still guiding families, but above all I have to show up for my own.
Care doesn't happen in silos, so I can't operate in one either.

Posting a little PSA as a Child Passenger Safety Tech! Recently, I discovered a parent in possession of a counterfeit/ illegal carseat. Not her fault, it was gifted with a travel set and she wanted to be grateful. We were able to locate a safe seat, and all is well. However, counterfeit seats ARE real, and they can be dangerous! Its becoming a problem on Amazon and with sites like Temu having knockoff versions of real but expensive seats like Doonas and revolving seats. In my season of surrender and not playing small.
This time last week, I gathered with many colleagues in Chicago to network and learn from each other at the Summit. I am always eternally grateful for people like who see the work you do, and in turn, encourage and facilitate you to share that with the world. The DMV babies went back to school today, and this mama was very happy because I now have (2) ALL DAY kiddos! More free time to do things like take selfies in spa bathrooms before your 90 minute aromatherapy massage and stretch. 😁.

Today's R&R was needed because August is NUTS, from planning two health events, to out of state speaking engagements to taping show segments - your girl is BEAT. The August gauntlet is coming to a close, however, and I do loosely have plans for some new things this fall/ winter. Can't wait to see what's next!

Happy Juneteenth!

While today was a respite day for many, (including myself), I hope you were able to reflect on what the day really means for Black liberation, especially in the context of reproductive and health justice for Black bodies. Sometimes as a Black woman, trying to survive as just a human, but also in the healthcare system as both a patient and a provider, I wonder are we really any more free now than in 1865? The chains are more systemic and philosophical than physical, but they exist. I find joy in what is, and what can be, but we still have a long way to go. The conversations I had last week at the Mom and Baby Action Network Summit underscored it. Black Maternal Health Week amplifies it. The work of countless people proves it. But I'm ready. Because none of us are free, till we all free. 🖤

Happy Black Babywearing Week from my last little, who still takes to being "carried away".

This year's theme is "Bonded in Love", and for us, that fits. Babywearing was my great love with her. Her feet probably didn't touch ground till 1 (I kid, kinda.) She calls herself my Koala Baby, a totem of a shared love for us- To carry, and be carried. If you're a parent- In what ways do you seek to strengthen the bonds between you and your babies? Busy, busy!! I have a few engagements this month, and I'm excited to share the work I do beyond Prince George's and Montgomery Counties.

First up, I'm attending the Mom and Baby Action Network Summit in the Windy City with as we present our updates to our poster, Reducing Perinatal Health Disparities in Montgomery County, MD.

At the end of the month, I'm joining for their Lactation Educator Training Live series, where I'll be educating birthworkers on how they can incorporate babywearing into their Lactation practice. You won't want to miss it. (I'm a fun time in person, I think😅)
