Ever wonder how that golden bottle of honey actually gets from the hive to your table? 🍯🇺🇸
It's a fascinating, multi-step process that requires careful work from both the bees and the beekeeper. 🐝 The bees do the heavy lifting, of course, collecting nectar and ripening it into honey. Then, the beekeeper steps in for the harvest!
Check out this complete process infographic, optimized for a U.S. audience, that breaks it all down:
Hive Inspection: Finding the perfect, capped frames. 🕵️‍♂️
Uncapping: Shaving off the wax seals by hand. 👋
Extraction: Spinning the honey out with centrifugal force! ✨
Filtering & Bottling: Getting it crystal clear and ready for market. 🛍️
It's a sweet science! 🧬💛

Praying the bees will be okay after this mornings storm knocked most of the lids off the hives. 🙏🏻🐝

Find yourself needing a little extra boost to finish your workout? Look no further than your pantry! 🍯

Consuming carbohydrates, such as honey, during a workout helps your muscles stay nourished longer and delays fatigue, versus not using any aid or supplement. Next time you reach for a simple bottle of water, add some honey to it – it might give you that much-needed athletic boost!

There is a right way and a wrong way to store honey.

Wrong:

The fridge. The fridge is the most common mistake. Cold temperatures cause honey to crystallize faster and get thick and grainy. It's not ruined, but it's not ideal either. Just please don't.

2. Next to the stove or in direct sunlight, especially if it is raw honey. Heat and humidity are not honey's friends. A jar sitting in heat and direct sunlight breaks down the natural enzymes in honey over time.

3. An open or loose lid. Honey absorbs moisture from the air. While honey itself won’t spoil, the moisture that gets in the bottle will and it leads to fermentation. Keep that lid tight!

Right:
1. Room temperature

2. Away from direct sunlight and heat

3. A tightly sealed lid

Thats it!

While it does crystallize, honey stored properly doesn't expire. Not in a year. Not in ten years. Technically, not ever. It's one of the few foods on the planet that can genuinely last forever if you treat it right.

Now you know! So go check where your honey is sitting!
