Here and there, for years, Karissa reached out to us for her family.

A kid whose gut needed a closer look.
Stool testing.
Questions about lead.
Emotional support.
Homeopathic remedies.

The normal health things that come up when you’re raising a bunch of humans. ❤️

Then one day, Mom was the one who wasn’t okay.

She was exhausted despite sleeping 10+ hours. Headaches. Nausea. Brain fog. Dizziness. Anxiety and panic. Hormonal changes. Feeling sick over and over again.

And she didn’t need someone to tell her to just sleep more or reduce her stress.

She needed someone to sit down, look at the WHOLE story and help her figure out where to start.

This week’s podcast is about Karissa’s health story - but it’s also about something bigger:

How much easier is it to raise a family when you already have a team to call when something doesn’t feel right?

Maybe your health changed after pregnancy.

Maybe your autoimmune symptoms disappeared while you were pregnant…only to come roaring back postpartum.

Maybe Hashimoto’s, joint pain, skin issues, fatigue, food reactions, or inflammation seemed to show up in a whole new way after baby.

Or maybe baby #1 came easily - and now you’re wondering why baby #2 isn’t.
These things may not be separate stories.

Pregnancy requires an incredible shift in immune function. Your body has to protect YOU while also developing tolerance for a genetically different little human growing inside you.

Then birth happens, hormones shift dramatically, and your immune system has to recalibrate again.

For some women, that transition reveals a system that isn’t regulating quite like it should.

And that’s why we don’t believe women’s health is just a hormone conversation.

Hormones talk to immunity.
The gut talks to immunity.
Infections talk to immunity.
Environmental exposures talk to immunity.

Pregnancy, postpartum, stress and nutrient status all influence the conversation.

So when a woman comes to us with autoimmunity, strange symptoms that began after pregnancy, or secondary fertility struggles, we’re interested in the WHOLE timeline.

Not just: What diagnosis do you have?

But: What happened to your immune system along the way?

This is the kind of puzzle our smart Hey Hey MAE team LOVES to investigate.

If you’ve been treating each symptom, hormone or diagnosis separately and still feel like no one has connected the dots, we’d love to take a look at the bigger picture with you!

When Amber and her husband first began searching for answers for their daughter Penny, they weren’t looking for a quick fix. They were looking for ways to help their little girl feel more comfortable, connected, healthy, and supported in her own body.

Along the way, they began asking deeper questions about the body’s natural processes—including fever and the important role it can play in the immune response.

Sometimes healing begins with looking at familiar symptoms through a different lens and asking: What is the body trying to do?

Penny’s story is a powerful reminder that the body is interconnected—and that understanding those connections can open the door to new possibilities for support and care.

My favorite part of this story isn’t the testing.

It’s what happened after.

✨ She read 37 books last year.
✨ She’s exercising consistently.
✨ They’re moving into a new home.
✨ They’re expecting a baby.

Healing isn’t always measured by the absence of symptoms.
Sometimes it’s measured by the return of capacity.

The ability to think clearly.
The energy to move your body.
The confidence to make plans.
The freedom to imagine your future again.

This week’s podcast episode is a beautiful reminder that healing is possible—even when you’ve been searching for answers for a very long time.

Summer berries beware: this jam is THE BEST swirled into Greek yogurt or slathered on some toast. 🍓🫐

You can easily use fresh berries in place of frozen — hi, blackberries, looking at you! 👀 — and it’ll keep in the fridge for a couple of weeks.

It’s also SO yummy chilled, then swirled in at the end of making my simple dairy-free, gluten-free ice cream recipe. 🙌

And if easy, whole-food recipes like this are your jam - pun FOR SURE intended - there are 125+ more recipes waiting for you in my Hey Hey Everyday cookbook.

DM “RECIPE” and we’ll send you the link to both the printed cookbook + digital version! 🍓📖

One of the biggest myths in health?

That Lyme disease always looks like a tick bite and a bullseye rash. Katie had never had a known bite and rash, but her symptom cluster and skin issues pointed back to Lyme - sure enough, a great resolution when she investigated bug borne with our team.

In reality, Lyme can look like:
• Food reactions
• Histamine issues
• Anxiety
• Brain fog
• Hormone imbalances
• Vertigo
• Poor memory
• Skin symptoms
• Chronic fatigue

In this week’s episode, we walk through a real client story and the subtle clues that pointed us toward deeper immune dysfunction and chronic infection.

If you’ve ever felt like your symptoms don’t fit neatly into a diagnosis, this conversation is for you.

The easy button sounds great... until it isn’t.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You ran the labs. You got the results. Maybe someone even told you everything was “normal.”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But you’re still looking at pages of numbers thinking… Okay, but what does all of this mean for ME?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is where our team shines. 🙌
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Our Line-by-Line Lab Review gives you 45 minutes with one of our wise, systems-informed, connective Hey Hey MAE providers to actually WALK through testing you already have.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Not just: Is this number in range? ✔️
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We’re looking at:
→ What’s “normal” vs. what may be functionally relevant
→ How your results may connect to your symptoms
→ Patterns across gut, immune, detox, hormones + minerals
→ How one wonky system may be influencing another
→ What the bigger picture seems to be saying
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Because your labs aren’t a collection of unrelated numbers - and neither is your body.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You’ll leave with written summary notes and general next-step considerations, but without committing to an ongoing care package.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Clarity without commitment.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you’ve already invested in testing but still don’t really understand what it means - or feel like you’ve tried all the obvious solutions without anyone connecting the dots - maybe give our brains a try. 🧠🙌
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We LOVE this stuff.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
DM “LAB REVIEW” and we’ll send you the direct link to schedule yours.

Have your ordered functional labs and been stuck with inactionable results?

77 years young. Recently diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis.
Fatigue.
Joint pain.
Stiffness.
Vision changes.
GERD that wouldn’t settle.
A history of shingles.

She had tried medications, healthy habits, and had ruled out structural causes.

But what she really wanted was simple: To feel functional again.

As we looked at her history and symptoms, one thing kept pointing back to the same place…
her immune system.

Testing revealed something her previous care hadn’t explored:
• Multiple Borrelia species (Lyme disease)
• Bartonella, a common co-infection
• Two additional vector-borne infections
• Several viral reactivations
• And a parasite known to drive inflammation, muscle pain, and vision symptoms

So the question becomes:
Was this truly Rheumatoid Arthritis and Gout…
or are those sometimes the names our system gives to unresolved infectious burden and immune dysfunction?
For many of our clients, those diagnoses are labels that describe symptoms — not the root cause.

When care is organized around immune balance, nourishment, and reducing infectious load, the body often finds its way back toward relief.

Even at 77.

Are you still searching for answers and feel like you have tried everything? Let’s chat! We were thrilled to work with this client who was in the same boat- felt like she had tried everything but problems persisted. We were able to identify some variables that were not previously accounted for and help her get back on track to wellness.

Have you noticed that during perimenopause you suddenly can’t tolerate the foods, supplements, or even the stress that never used to bother you?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You’re not imagining it.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
One of the reasons may be the relationship between estrogen and histamine.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
These two are constantly communicating.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As estrogen fluctuates throughout perimenopause, it can influence mast cells to release more histamine. At the same time, histamine can also influence estrogen activity, creating a cycle that may amplify symptoms.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
For some women, this can show up as:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Anxiety
Trouble sleeping
Migraines
Itchy skin or hives
Flushing
Food sensitivities
Sinus congestion
Heart palpitations
Digestive symptoms
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Many women assume their hormones are “out of control.”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
While hormones absolutely play a role, they may also be exposing an immune system that’s already under stress.
In our practice, we don’t just ask, “How do we balance hormones?”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We also ask:

✔️ Is the immune system overly reactive?
✔️ Is there underlying gut dysfunction?
✔️ Is mold, Lyme, EBV, or another chronic trigger keeping the immune system activated?
✔️ Is the nervous system stuck in a chronic stress response?
Perimenopause doesn’t necessarily create these problems—it can reveal them.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When you address both hormone health and the underlying immune and inflammatory terrain, many women find they finally begin to understand why their symptoms changed so dramatically.
