The front of the bottle is marketing. The back is where the truth lives.
ㅤ
Before you buy your next one, flip it over and check three things:
ㅤ
1. The strains
Not just "probiotics", but the actual strain names. Different strains do different jobs, some support regularity, some support immune function, some are better studied in kids than others. A label that only says "probiotic blend" with no named strains is giving you a promise, not information.
ㅤ
2. The CFU count
CFU stands for colony-forming units. That’s the dose. But more isn't automatically better. What matters is whether that CFU count is guaranteed through the expiration date, not just on the day it was manufactured. A lot of probiotics lose potency on the shelf, so the number on the front can be misleading by the time it reaches you.
ㅤ
3. The expiration date
This tells you how long the strains stay viable and whether they need refrigeration to get there. A probiotic that's already lost most of its live cultures by the time you open it isn't doing much, however good the label looked in the store.
ㅤ
A good probiotic makes all three easy to find. If a brand is hiding the strains, isn’t clear about the CFU count, or vague about viability, that's worth noticing.
ㅤ
Read past the front of the bottle. Your gut can tell the difference and so can you.
A brand with nothing to hide makes those easy to find.
ㅤ
Because a gut that's set up to starts with knowing what's really in the bottle.
