I still want to build useful things.

Help providers. Make clinic work less frustrating. Share what I am learning with someone who needs it.

And I want to be a dad my daughter gets to know—not just someone she hears was working hard for her.

I do not have a perfect formula for that. I have a responsibility to keep making choices that reflect both.

That is the life I want to be part of.

A small fix is not small to the person dealing with the problem every day.

The confusing label. The missing instruction. The task that asks for the same information twice.

None of those makes a dramatic product announcement. All of them can make the work less frustrating.

If you are building something, ask one person what they have learned to work around.

Understand it. Fix what you can. Then ask them to try it again.

That last part matters. The fix is not finished just because I think it is.

I do not want to tell someone in a hard season, “Everything happens for a reason.”

Sometimes it is just hard. Sometimes there are consequences to face and work that nobody else can do for you.

But I also do not want you to mistake the life you can see today for the only life still available to you.

Looking at my daughter, I feel grateful for chapters I could not have pictured earlier in my life.

Take the next honest step. You do not need to explain the whole future yet.

“I should check my phone less” is not much of a plan if every decision still lands with me.

As a founder, I want to make it easier to be unavailable for a while without leaving people stranded.

Name the backup. Clarify what can wait. Agree on how a genuinely urgent issue reaches the right person.

In a clinic, that includes appropriate coverage—not simply turning notifications off.

The boundary and the support behind it have to be built together. That is work I want to take seriously.

The quiet time in between. The small changes. The ordinary days that will become most of her childhood.

At a completely different scale, here is something I think about when someone joins a team:

Does the welcome show up in the preparation?

Do they know where to go, who to ask, and what a useful first day looks like?

“We’re glad you’re here” means more when the person does not spend the day wondering what they are supposed to do.

If you have someone starting soon, ask what you can make clear before they arrive.

Looking at it now, I do not think about how well we prepared for every possible detail.

I think about the person beside me.

We will have things to learn, decisions to make, and days when we need to give each other more patience than usual.

I want us to keep treating the problem as something we face together.

“We’ll take care of it” can sound reassuring and still leave someone unsure what happens next.

For a routine administrative issue, a smaller promise can be more useful:

“I will check with the right person and update you by Thursday, even if I do not have the final answer yet.”

Only offer a time you can meet. If the plan changes, say so before the person has to chase you.

I want to build trust through specific commitments we can keep—not big statements that nobody owns.

Now that our daughter is here, I look at the gifts and think about the people behind them.

Someone took time to think about our family. That is the part I want to remember.

Not every kind thing comes in a bag. Sometimes it is a message, a visit, or making yourself available without needing anything back.

We are grateful to be cared for.
