I recently had the privilege of attending an anatomy workshop in beautiful Colorado Springs. I am still processing what I witnessed there. We observed a master anatomist dissect the various layers of the body, from skin to superficial fascia, to deep fascia and muscle, as well as many organs. It was quite fascianating! Not to speak of the amazing organization and yes, beauty, of the viscera. That was a surprise to me. The whole experience increased my awe and reverence for the human body.
The most moving moment was the opportunity to hold a human heart between my hands. I had always understood and felt that when I touch someone, I am directly communicating with their nervous system. That is because the sensory nerve endings terminating at the skin transmit the stimulus all the way up the nerve tree to the spinal cord and brain. And that is why the right kind of touch can have such a calming effect. What I had not realized until that day, is that the same holds true for the heart: when I touch someone, I am also communicating with the heart by means of the small blood vessels in the skin, which carry vital blood and oxygen all the way back through the vascular system to that precious organ. So, one could say that one communicates brain to brain and heart to heart through the medium of touch. That is just so amazing to me! And I'm newly inspired to stay present to that understanding during my sessions with you.
I look forward to seeing you at the office! https://CalmaTherapy.as.me/?calendarID=4426265
