New technology can create new possibilities.

At Vision Rehabilitation Services of Georgia, we are always exploring practical tools that may
help individuals with low vision or blindness live more independently. One of the newest tools we
are currently evaluating Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses.

These glasses combine everyday eyewear with hands-free technology that can assist with tasks
like:
• Listening to information aloud
• Using voice commands
• Taking photos to identify surroundings
• Accessing helpful AI features in real time
• Staying connected without needing to hold a phone

Right now, Dudley, our technology specialist at VRS, is actively wearing and testing them in
real-world settings. He is exploring how they work, where they can truly help, and whether this
technology could become part of our future strategy to help clients learn to live again.
We believe technology should do one thing above all else: make life easier and more empowering.

That is why we do not just follow trends. We test tools carefully, evaluate real benefits, and focus on what can truly improve independence for the people we serve.

The future of vision rehabilitation may look different than it did just a few years ago, and we are excited to keep learning.

This week is World Retinoblastoma Awareness Week, a time to raise awareness about a rare but serious childhood eye cancer called Retinoblastoma.

Retinoblastoma usually develops in young children and begins in the retina, the part of the eye that helps detect light and send visual signals to the
brain. When caught early, treatment outcomes can be very positive, which is why awareness is so important.

Some signs families are encouraged to watch for can include:

• A white glow in the pupil in photos
• Eyes that appear to look in different directions
• Vision concerns
• Eye redness or swelling

Early diagnosis can help protect both vision and life.

For many families, the journey does not always end with treatment. Some children may experience low vision, blindness, or long-term vision
challenges that require ongoing support as they grow.

That is where Vision Rehabilitation Services of Georgia plays an important role. We believe that vision loss should never define a child’s future.
Through training, support, resources, and life skills development, we help children and families build confidence, independence, and opportunity for
the road ahead.

World Retinoblastoma Awareness Week reminds us that awareness saves lives,
and support changes lives.

Mobility devices, whether it is a wheelchair, scooter, walker, white cane, support cane, crutches, or a guide dog, are not “just equipment.” They represent freedom. They allow us to move through the world independently, simply navigating life differently than those who do not need mobility support.

These devices give us independence. They give us autonomy. They are an extension of who we are.

That is why respect matters. Please do not touch, grab, lean on, or move a mobility device without permission. Even unintentional damage can put our safety and independence at risk. Most mobility devices are customized to the individual using them, and repairs or replacements are rarely quick or simple.

A small moment of awareness and respect can make a lasting difference.

Losing vision can change life in an instant.

The routines that once felt simple can suddenly feel overwhelming. Making coffee. Reading a text. Crossing a parking lot. Ordering lunch. Using a
phone. Getting to work. Caring for your family.

That is why “learning to live again” means so much more than people realize.

It means rebuilding confidence after fear.
It means learning new skills that restore independence.
It means discovering technology that opens doors.
It means realizing life is still full of possibility.

Sometimes learning to live again looks like ordering your own meal at a restaurant.

Sometimes it looks like using your phone without needing help.

Sometimes it looks like walking into the community with confidence.

Sometimes it looks like a parent realizing they can still fully care for their child.

And sometimes it simply looks like hope returning.

At Vision Rehabilitation Services of Georgia, learning to live again happens every day through training, encouragement, community, and
compassionate support.

Vision loss may change how life is lived.
It does not end the ability to live it well.

Home matters. Community matters. Being able to receive help close to where
you live matters.

At Vision Rehabilitation Services of Georgia, we are proud to serve
individuals across the state of Georgia. No matter where someone lives,
vision loss can change daily life in an instant, and everyone deserves the
opportunity to learn to live independently again.

But our hearts are especially rooted in the communities where our story
began within Cobb County.

We were founded in Smyrna, and it remains the place we proudly call home.

It is where relationships have been built, lives have been changed, and
hope has been restored for decades.

We also deeply value serving the greater Atlanta metro area, where so many
individuals and families are navigating the challenges of low vision,
blindness, and life after unexpected medical events.

For someone facing vision loss, support should not feel far away. It should
feel personal. It should feel compassionate. It should feel like a neighbor
walking beside you.

That is how we strive to serve every client who comes through our doors.

From Smyrna to Atlanta and throughout Georgia, we are here to help people
rebuild confidence, regain independence, and learn to live again.

What does impact really look like?
In 2025, it looked like individuals regaining their independence.

It looked like clients learning new skills and rebuilding confidence after vision loss.
It looked like a community coming together to support, uplift, and empower one another.

At Vision Rehabilitation Services of Georgia, every number tells a story. And behind every story
is a person navigating life with strength and resilience.

We are proud to share our 2025 Impact Newsletter, highlighting the lives touched, the services

If you have ever wondered how someone who is blind uses a computer, this is one of the
answers.

JAWS, which stands for Job Access With Speech, is a screen reader that helps people who are
blind or visually impaired navigate a computer without needing to see the screen. Instead of relying on sight, JAWS reads everything out loud, including emails, websites,
documents, and menus. This allows users to listen, navigate with a keyboard, and stay fully
engaged in the digital world.

Here is how it helps:
• Reads text on the screen in real time
• Allows navigation using keyboard commands
• Works with email, internet browsers, and office programs
• Supports independence at home and in the workplace

The impact is powerful.

JAWS opens the door to employment, education, communication, and everyday tasks that many
of us take for granted. It turns a screen into something accessible, usable, and empowering.
For the low or no vision community, tools like JAWS are not just technology. They are
opportunity.

At VRS, we help individuals learn how to use tools like JAWS with confidence because access
to technology means access to life.

If you or someone you love is adjusting to living with low vision, contact us so that we can see how you can become part of the VRS community.

For many of us, home is a place of comfort and routine. We know where everything is, and we
trust what we can see.

Now imagine navigating that same space without clear vision.

Something as small as a frayed cord, a misplaced space heater, or a stove left on can quickly
become a serious risk. For individuals who are visually impaired, fire and electrical hazards are
not always visible, which makes prevention and preparation even more critical.

That is why Vision Rehabilitation Services of Georgia offers home fire and electrical
safety training to our clients. We help individuals identify risks, make simple adjustments, and build safe, reliable routines within their homes.

This is not just about safety. It is about confidence. It is about independence. It is about peace of mind for both individuals and their families.

Everyone deserves to feel safe in their own home. And with the right support, that safety becomes possible.

If you or someone you love needs this type of help, please contact us so that we can help you
create a safe environment as you learn to live independently after vision loss.

43 years of impact.

43 years of independence restored.

43 years of walking alongside individuals navigating life after vision loss.

As we go into the weekend, we continue to reflect on years of service and impact. On Wednesday, we proudly celebrated the 43rd anniversary of Vision Rehabilitation Services of
Georgia.

In 1983, Sarah Sentell Scott began this mission after losing much of her own vision in her 40s.
When she could not find the support she needed, she created it. And with that, VRS was born.
What started as one woman’s determination has grown into a trusted resource serving
communities across Georgia.

Behind every year is a story.
A client learning to navigate their home again.
A parent regaining confidence.
A neighbor rediscovering independence.

This milestone belongs to all of you. Our clients, staff, donors, and supporters. Your belief in this
mission makes this work possible.
As we celebrate 43 years, we also look ahead with purpose and commitment to continue
empowering lives.

Thank you for being part of this journey.
