At 27, Kristen went to the emergency room with a severe headache and vomiting, assuming she was dealing with a bad migraine or stomach virus. An MRI revealed a much more serious diagnosis: a Stage II brain tumor that had likely been developing for years. Because of the tumor’s location and her young age, Kristen’s oncologist recommended proton therapy for its precision and lower risk of long-term side effects during radiation treatment. Reflecting on her experience, Kristen encourages others facing cancer to “Don’t let cancer pause your entire life. Live life day-by-day and look for ways to keep doing the things that you love during treatment.”
