Just a rebuild update to try to keep everyone in the loop as much as possible: so per our last update, we were waiting on signatures and approvals from the state to continue with the rebuild. Those finally came through, and as of a few days ago, we heard that the contractors were working on sub-flooring. Progress is being made, thankfully, and hopefully it won’t be too much longer before we’re back in business. The process with the state pushed us quite a bit further back in the year than what we were hoping for, but things seem yo be on a good track now, and hopefully that’ll have us reopened sooner rather than later.

On our end, we’ve been staying busy as well. I’m sure many of you have seen the various art drops around town that Nate has been leaving, but Nate, Melanie, and Cory have all been hard at work on new shirt and sticker designs that will be ready for our relaunch. We also have some big plans for a grand reopening event that we hope to be able to start announcing soon, so keep an eye open for that! Though it’ll still be part of a process, we plan on starting to get our stuff moved back in as soon as they give us the okay, and we’re already getting our ducks in a row for that.

A little update for where the shop is at currently: so as you know, we’re in the process of rebuilding our previous location. There was pretty great progress being made on the rebuild, and then we learned that construction was halted. Apparently there are additional forms and signatures needed to advance the rebuild further, and our contractors are waiting for those to come in from the capitol. But we have been reassured that, once those signatures are in, the rest of the rebuild will go very quickly. However, that has most likely shifted our reopening timeline from September to October, sadly.

We aren’t resting on our laurels though. Plenty of drawing and painting is being done, and since it looks like we’re going to be reopening for spooky season, here’s some want-to-dos by that are up for grabs. Melanie has these and plenty other designs available, and if you want to claim them before we get reopened, just message our shop page or email us at [email protected] and we’ll get it set up. Thanks for looking and we will see you soon!

We’re staying busy while we get ready to reopen the shop. We’re still hoping to be far enough along to reopen next month. Just a quick update on our shop: we finally received the money from GoFundMe, and we are so appreciative of everyone that donated. When we are able to reopen, that’s going to go so far to replacing the supplies, materials, and furniture that was destroyed, and we would be in such a rough place without you guys helping us with that.

We spent a few weeks looking at potential new locations, but were incredibly thankful to learn that the owners of our previous location have decided to rebuild, so we’ll be able to move back into the same location that you were already familiar with. They estimate the rebuild to take another 2-3 months, so with any luck, we’ll be back tattooing in September.

There are still a lot of moving parts, and unfortunately our hands are still largely off the wheel. We’re still in a bit of a holding pattern, but as we get closer to a reopening, we’ll be posting the details as we have them. And we can’t express enough our gratitude for all the folks who have reached out to help, to check on us, or just to be friends. We really appreciate all of you, and can’t wait to get you back in our tattoo booths.

For years, we had a clock sitting over the door frame to our back room. It was the spot that our eyes were trained to go to as it got close to time for your appointment. Or to gauge how long your tattoo might have taken to do. It was intrinsic and instinctive for us to look to that spot, the spot above our doorframe, 20+ times per day.

Two years ago, we took that clock down and replaced it with the yellow “believe” sign. If you’ve ever watched the television series “Ted Lasso” (and if you’ve been in our shop any the last few years, we’ve definitely recommended it to you), then you know what that represents in that show. We put our own up, because we love the show and because we wanted a yellow sign to touch as we walked through a doorway. But our compulsions don’t change overnight. And 20+ times a day, we intrinsically and impulsively looked at that same spot, where our clock used to sit, to be greeted not with timekeeping but with a very simple idea: Believe.

Last night our community was devastated by tornados. A lot of folks will say that we lost everything. But I don’t think that’s true. Because we didn’t lose our belief. I believe that we’re going to come out on the other side of this okay. I believe in the power of community to help pick each other up in dark times. I believe in our ability and our capacity to do good. And mostly, while I don’t know what exactly the future holds, I believe Quality Custom Tattoos will be a part of that future.

As you can see from the first picture, the storm couldn’t shake our “believe” sign. That’s us in a nutshell. We’re going to be okay. We’re going to survive. We’re going to believe.

We’ve obviously lost our shop. We’re working on figuring out a way that we can still work. For those of you who have appointments in the calendar, I’ll be reaching out over the next couple of days to communicate with you about those. We’ll figure out everything as best we can. For everyone else, please bear with me as there’s a whole lot to sort through.

We love you. We will see you soon. We believe in you. We believe in us. We believe in believe.
