As temperatures rise across Michiana, it only takes minutes for the inside of a vehicle to become dangerously hot — even on a mild day.

In a recent ABC57 story, South Bend Clinic Family Medicine physician Dr. Bertoncini shared an important reminder: hot car tragedies happen more often than many people realize, making prevention and awareness critical.

A few important reminders:
• Never leave a child or pet unattended in a vehicle — not even for a minute
• Always check the back seat before locking your car
• Place a phone, purse, or other essential item in the back seat as a reminder
• If you see a child alone in a hot vehicle, call 911 immediately

A simple habit can save a life.
