Lamont Drugs Fanpage to share memories of Lamont Drugs. Lamont Drugs stood at 3015 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend, Indiana for 44 years in the River Park Neighborhood.

Prior to being owned by pharmacist Kenneth B Lamont, it was known as Walt's Cut-Rate Drugs when purchased in the 1940's. Many River Park residents fondly remember the soda-fountain lunch counter as a gathering place for Adams High School students and River Park neighbors alike. The sods fountain was removed by the mid 60's. Lamont Drugs sustained a devastating fire as the result of a robbery in D

ecember of 1978. When the drugstore reopened six months later it was remodeled to a more modern look. The front door was moved to the east to be closer to the parking lot, which was formerly the Stagecoach Restaurant. Through the years family, friends and neighborhood teens worked at The Drugstore, many times as their very first job. Please share any photos you may have, help tag friends, and share memories of the store. Mr Lamont sold the business in the mid '80's, and continued to work as a pharmacist for many years during his "retirement", in other pharmacies.

Walt’s Cut Rate Drugs was purchased by K. B. Lamont in 1944. He and his family came to South Bend in 1938, when he worked in pharmaceutical sales. It was his opportunity to get off the road.
